Starting a New Game
Welcome to Flexible Survival! In this game, the player controls a character who aims to survive the aftermath of a disaster which has left much of the city in ruins and its population mutated into monsters. With dwindling supplies of food and water, the player is forced to venture into this hostile environment to collect the supplies and equipment necessary for survival. Along the way, they may meet allies, choose to help those less fortunate, and perhaps even come to learn about the nature of the disaster itself.

Getting Started
The start of every Flexible Survival game begins with the creation of the player's avatar and the configuration of game options.
Stats
The player has a basic set of stats for his physical and mental abilities, as well as other stats which influence his overall actions. The basic stats start at a base 12, with one stat chosen at the start of the game to be 17 as the player's specialty. In general, these stats give a bonus of +1 per two points above 10 they have to their related rolls and effects.
- Strength - Affects how hard you hit and your carrying capacity, as well as feats of strength.
- Dexterity - Affects one's ability to hit, dodge and flee, as well as feats of agility.
- Stamina - Increases one's HP, general health and influences the rate at which hunger/thirst increases.
- Charisma - Helps with certain non-combat encounters, increase pet loyalty & influences morale.
- Perception - Makes finding things easier (hunting, exploring and searching) & influences morale.
- Intelligence - Makes healing (medkits) more effective and affects your ability to flee.
Gender
This is a simple toggle between male and female. The player's character starts as one or the other, but this may change as the game progresses.
Game Type
There are 6 basic game modes given at the start of the game. These are:
- Bunker: This is the basic game play mode. You start fully human in the bunker with limited supplies.
- Caught Outside: A variant on the basic game where you made it to the bunker with minor infection (3 random infections), but are given the 'Spartan Diet' feat as a bonus.
- Rescuer Stranded: A harder variant on the basic game where you start with no supplies and only a cot in the bunker. A bonus of 300 points is awarded.
- Forgotten: An iron-man mode where you start with no supplies and only a cot in the bunker. Doctor Matt and Orthas are removed from the game, though you can still gain basic feats at the lab. A bonus of 600 points is awarded and game time is extended to 60 days to start.
- Researcher: A mode similar to bunker but you're immune to casual infection (You won't transform from losing battles) and have specialized equipment that allows you to collect the infection vials of those you defeat.
Hard Mode
This toggles hard mode on or off. Hard mode is a more difficult version of the game, where weaker monsters now level up to keep pace with the player and gain increased hp, damage and dexterity. The level window on encounters is removed, which means powerful monsters can be encountered while the player is still at low levels. A bonus of 900 points is awarded and game time is extended to 60 days to start.
Main Feat
Feats provide a bonus to certain activies the player undertakes. Many feats have stat requirements, so choosing a different primary stat will affect which feats are available.
Fun Feat
Main feats deal primarily with basic game mechanics. Fun feats, on the other hand, tend to have less of a direct impact on the game and more often deal with secondary aspects of the game, such as sex and dialogue/interaction options.
Gender Lock
This option allows you to select a permanent gender bias for future infections. It wont affect your base gender, but will affect how it changes throughout the game.
- None - There is no restriction to your gender-transformation. You receive a 5% point bonus from this selection at game end.
- Random - Fond of Excitement? A random lock is chosen for you at game start!
- Male - You reject all female mutations.
- Female - You reject all male mutations.
- Shemale - You will trend to the configuration of a herm – however lacking female genitalia.
- Cuntboy - You will trend to the configuration of a female – however lacking any breasts.
- Male Herm - You will trend to the configuration of a herm – however lacking any breasts.
- Herm - You take on the configuration of a full herm.
- Always Cocky - Regardless of mutation, you always retain some male anatomy.
- Always a Pussy - Regardless of mutation, you always retain some female anatomy.
- Single Sexed - Regardless of mutation, you will never be a herm.
It's worth noting that most of these options are also available through Fun Feats and can be selected later in the game if they aren't taken at character creation.
Gameplay Options
The options in this section allow the player to filter out content they are uninterested in or find undesirable.
Banned/Warded Types
Warding a monster will mean you can only find them by hunting for them, banning them removes them from the game entirely. The following options are available:
- Feral
- Furry
- Guy
- Girl
- Hermaphrodite
- Humanoid (not implemented)
- Humorous
- Hellspawn
Anal Content
This option allows the player some control over the level of sexual content related to anal sex. It's a general guideline which has not been implemented for all game content.
- Less Anal will indicate that you’re looking to see less anal sex in your game. In some cases, it may alternate to another possible sex scene (such as oral), a non-sexual scene or simply have you driven off. This change may be automatic or be induced randomly. Keep in mind that many NPCs and creatures have sexual preferences of their own and so you could still encounter M/M and anal sex even if this preference is chosen.
- Normal will indicate that you’d like the game’s standard level of anal sex. Some scenes with males/herms may result in anal sex, though other forms of anal play will be rare.
- More Anal will indicate that you’re open to view anal sex more frequently. Some scenes may also use this as an indicator to insert additions for other forms of anal play (fingering, rimming, prostate stimulation, etc...) if they exist for the base scene. You may even encounter the rare instance of anal sex with a female occurring. Again as stated above, many NPCs and creatures have their own sexual preferences to consider, so the degree of change (if any) that may occur will vary.
WS Content
This option allows the player control over the level of sexual content related to watersports (urination). Currently, the amount of such content in the game is miniscule, but this option allows control over that content which is currently in the game.
- No WS will indicate that you’re looking to not see any WS in your game. This will either skip that portion of the content or pick one of the other available scenes. Keep in mind that there may be a few scenes where you are asked if you want to be involved in WS and those prompts (and their associated scenes) may still be active, but you can pick the non-activation option for them at that time. Should you
have this setting active and get a WS scene in the game, do prompt us via the forums or blog so we might check on the issue as well - we are still implementing this mechanic.
- Standard will indicate that you’re okay with a low level of WS content, should it happen to come up. Only some creatures/NPCs are active about including WS in their actions, so having this setting will keep their use of it infrequent.
- Full WS will indicate that you’re open to view WS more often. Some WS content may only be accessible via this setting, while in other cases it will raise the frequency of WS being shown. Similarly, more detail might be thrown into a scene at this level. Again, the amount of WS content presently in the game is rare, but setting yourself to this level will get the most out of it.
Vore/UB Content
This option allows the player control over the level of content related to vore (the whole consumption of the player or enemies).
- No Vore - Skip most scenes of the player getting vored.
- Standard - Player may infrequently get vored.
- Full Vore - Player more likely to get vored when possible.
- Vore by player
- No UB - Skip most scenes of the player getting unbirthed.
- Standard - Player may infrequently get unbirthed.
- Full UB - Player more likely to get unbirthed when possible.
- UB by player
Ovi Pregnancy
This option will allow you to adjust whether some of the creatures out there are able to impregnate your player with eggs instead of live young.
- No Ovi will indicate that you’re looking to not have your player possibly bearing eggs. All female pregnancies will be live young and MPreg to FPreg swaps will be treated as live births as well.
- Standard will indicate that you’re okay with being impregnanted with eggs, if that’s the creature’s normal result.
- Always Ovi - not available at start; has to be activated in game.
Display Options
This section controls various interface options for the game itself
- Hyperlinks - Most objects in the game can be interacted with as hyperlinks if this is enabled. When enabled, clicking on those objects gives context relevant options. If disabled, all objects in the game require text commands to interact with.
- Waiting for input - Some events have a lot of text. In order to make those events more readable and dynamic, the game inserts points where it asks the player to press a key to proceed with the event.
- Screen Clearing - This allows various events in the game to clear the screen, clearing all previous text and dialogue.
- Graphics - This option toggles the display of pictures for various enemies, npcs and the like.
- Inventory columns - This affects how items in the inventory are displayed. If running in windowed mode, two or three are suggested. Four should only be selected when running in full screen, as it can cause inventory information to be split over several lines.
