Niles once again sits in the lobby, waiting for the team to show up. His suit is immaculate, his tie perfectly positioned. He is the very pinnacle of orderliness.
Beyond the fact that he seems to lack the ability to be bored by waiting. He seems to be using a calculator to solve some sort of problem. Clearly not one that he's familiar with. He sits on the uncomfortable folding metal chair, alone, erasing and writing as he goes on with the task. It is unlikely, that this is something he would appreciate help with.
Eventually he shakes his head, returning the calculator to a coat pocket. He must be done with it, in one of the several senses that "done" often has. Now, it seems, he is bored. In his mannerisms are the hallmarks of those unpleasant companies of anxiety and ennui.
Arris enters the RSX lobby. Having anticipated colder weather, sie came in a windbreaker, though sie still has hir swimsuit on underneath. Adjusting the rifle over hir shoulder, sie would take a quick glance around the RSX lobby before spotting the human whom sie heard was assigning the mission. "Hey, I heard there was a mission or something here?" Sie gives Niles a polite smile, recognising his face as that guy in a fursuit back at the carnival around Halloween.
Melan glances at their comm unit. Just in time, as the saunter in for the briefing. Their shoddy armor would hopefully suffice--their earlier altercation left it in some disrepair. They glance up from their wrist and open the door to the lobby, eager to get paid. Looks like they weren't the first to arrive.
Ebreus steps off the chopper, again having business in Woodfield taking him from his usual activities in Fairhaven and Eureka, and waists little time getting off the landing pad and making his way to the lobby of the RSX Building... his only regret in deciding to wear his armor being that none of the RSX Personel can see his new shirt, the one that broadcasts how he does more than they do, but it didn't really matter and antagonizing them with an accurate shirt probably wouldn't get him any deserved recognition anyway.
His helmet in its retracted position leaving his head visible... and unarmored for the timebeing, toating a small arsenal of high-powered weapons and being in the headquarters of one of the major factions he hardly felt any necessity of keeping the helmet up.
Aproaching Niles' spot in the lobby he noticed he wasn't the first one there, as usual for having to commute from Fairhaven, and aproaches the small group. "Greetings Niles, Arris, Melan." he says.
With a kick in his step and a smile one his face does a jackal wander into the main lobby of his old benefactors. He was fully geared up and ready to go, rearing to get involved in something exciting, dangerous, thrilling, even life-threatening, to fee the buzz, the adrenaline rush of making a change, going head-to-head with a worthy opponent, blood pumping and body reveling in the ecstasy of battle, the pain of his injuries making him feel so very much alive!
If he had to be honest with himself the jackal was looking at a boring salvage mission again, so he didn't have hopes all that high... Nearing the visibly bored out of his mind human, the canine simply greets with a nod and a two-finger salute, before turning to greet the others in the room.
"Arris, how's it hanging?" he asks warmly and gives the gator a bump, then flashes a smile at the odd smooth-skinned one as well. "Hi there. Otto's the name, here for the mission?" T'was then that Ebreus also comes into view, the jackal moving in to give his friend a playful punch on the shoulder "Eb, you bastard! Glad to see ya!" Tucking his paws into his pockets, the jackal retrieves a flask and takes a sip from its contents, the bitter swill within forcing his nose to scrunch up, though the bandages on the hand holding that flask hinted at something far more uncomfortable than some bitter swill. He shivers a bit before re-pocketing it, then turns to Niles and says "Alr-*urrrp*-ight, what's the deal?"
Niles may have recognized that gator. Almost certainly could have. But, ultimately, he did not want to acknowledge that, so he attempts to ignore hir, writing down hir name. To hir question, Niles just nods. It occurs to him, after seeing the smile on the gator's face, that perhaps his reaction did not improve the situation for him at all.
He makes note of the elf who arrives, and Ebreus, who he recognizes, "Hello Ebreus nice to see the primary source of RSX's funding, or so I hear."
"Huh. I don't think I've ever seen someone drink before a mission." He notices the bandages, "Oh. I guess that's not it then."
"So, Let's get started with the briefing"
"So. This is fairly simple, believe it or not." Niles says. "So don't fuck it up."
"Though, I doubt you can manage that without really trying at it." He sighs before continuing his rant, "So. Heinrich, is somehow in the position to obtain yet another Servo."
"The primary difference this time," His expression is pained, "He's asking for real money, rather than services we can provide."
"So I can give you a dispensation of-" He looks at the work he had been doing, and rubs his eyes, "10000 freecred. It is unlikely that 10000 freecred will be sufficient." He writes something down on a sheet of paper and displays it to the group, it reads "Management is being stingier than they usually are. Sorry."
"In any case, you are all to barter, haggle, but not steal, to ensure that you can obtain the servo. Since I see that several of you are returning from the previous assignment involving Heinrich, I will let you lead the new faces to the area. Take care now."
Arris
Melan makes eye contact with Otto, nodding at him. "Melan", he whispers to him, before turning and listening to the gig's details. Afterwards, he remains silent, gauging his new partners expressions on... job with a huge gray area. "So, anyone good at improvising?? he chuckles.
Arris would chuckle and return the booty bump to Otto, perhaps overdoing it a little with it and not realising. "Hey, Otto, I'm doing well, thanks, you? Oh, and Ebreus' here too. I don't think I've met you before, though." Sie gives the dark elf a nod. "Uh, my name's Arris. Yours is, Melan, I think I heard?" Sie would glance around at hir teammates once more. "So, who's this Heinrich guy?"
Ebreus smiles wide as he sees his friend aproach for the mission and playfully strike his shoulder, "Hi Otto. Glad to see you're on this one with us. I can scarcely remember the last we weren't at least technically successful with you, me, and Arris workin' together." he replies. His grin widens when it turns out Niles was at least told of the shirt he happens to be hearing but is obscured by his armor, "Not the whole company, just R&D. What can I say? R&D comes up with some good stuff, well worth funding." he replies.
He listens quietly as they are breifed on the current contract... ignoring the fact that the last time he and Otto were on a simple 'go buy this' type of mission he nearly died and the third agent on contract was seriously injured it did sound like a cakewalk. "Ten K for a servo... that'll require some interesting negotiating skills. Shouldn't be too hard. And if it is I could always pitch in some more." he says sounding a little amused at the end of his comment.
He clears his throught and looks to the elven mutant on the team, Melan, and says, "Well it isn't really improvising but I am trained for this sort of thing." There was little hint in his voice of amusement but it was always interesting to him how his skill with words tended to be more useful than skill with guns here in the middle of a post-apocoliptic world.
Great. Another negotiations mission. These days Otto felt less like a soldier and more like an errand boy, told to relay messages and growl at folks that step out of line. 'Bla bla bla, urrrrghhh.' he thinks to himself and rolls his eyes. The jackal certainly swallowed down the urge to scream "BORING!" but the expression on his face certainly spoke of his enthusiasm to go pinch pennies with some schmuck. "Go squeeze Heinrich until he coughs up the servo, gotcha." He tries to look at least a little interested, then grabs one paw with the other and cracks his uninjured hand's knuckles.
Glancing over towards Melan, the jackal winks slyly and says "We'll be fine. We're literally being sent on a child's errand. Go talk to some rube and get a servo from him. Piece of cake." His glance then snaps onto Arris "Doing as well as I can, things have been... weird, lately. Very strange, in fact... I won't go into details, but..." he shrugs, seemingly ending the sentence there, before looking back at Ebreus "Yeah, well... let's get on with it then. I have no idea where this guy is so..." he gestures for someone to go ahead and lead the way."
Leading the way, Ebreus points the group out of the building towards the Brass Orrery's building in the industrial segment.
It is not quite a chilly winter's day in Woodfield, but the air carries the smell of the warning of what weather might come later on.
As before, the Brass Orrery's building is is the single well maintained building on the block. Well guarded by goblins wielding weaponry that might be considered, "sufficient" for their purposes. A guard ushers the party inwards as they approach, recognizing Phosphorus and Ebreus.
As before, the inside of the building is, to put it mildly, balmy. The furnace of the boiler in the back casts hot white arcs of light across the main workshop on the ground floor, which itself, is not poorly illuminated by the gas lamps above the floor.
As in the first time, the party is escorted towards the boiler, which Heinrich, for one reason or another, seems to find a decent place for his 'office', though, usually, he is usually moping around too hard for it to be called an "office".
Today, is different in that regards. Today, Heinrich is not moping. In fact, he is not even lounging. Today, he is smiling, talkative, sober, and working. Today, on some sort of schematic. Something has clearly changed in him.
Eventually he notices the group, "Hello Ebreus, its nice to see you again." He's not sure he's met the others here, "And you two new faces. Nice to make your acquaintance."
"So I suppose you are all here for the servo right?" He says, still smiling. Normally, that would be a sign that a goblin was about to do something really nasty to you. It is not clear if that general advice holds.

Melan lets the folks more familiar with these goblins do the gabbing. They shuffled closer to the boiler's hot heat, which felt great in the poorly insulated industrial building. They listen intently to the dialogue, waiting for the catch his compatriots seemingly knew was coming.
Arris steps to the side, letting Ebreus and Otto do the talking for the group. Negotiation of goods was perhaps not one of hir strong points, and sie would assume that the jackal and fox were more capable at it. Sie would glance to Melan before speaking. "Gee, it's kind of hot in here, isn't it?" Sie takes off hir cardigan, tying the sleeves of it around hir waist.
Ebreus nods very slightly in response to Ottos statements, he knew his friend wasn't one for fetch-quests or negotiation... in fact he almost seemed to enjoy the nearly lethal fetch-quest the were last on. As he leads them out he leans over to Otto and says, "The bandages on your hand, they're not covering anything too significant for sparring afterward, right?" suggesting an activity that he thinks may lighten his friends spirits and what Ebreus has been wanting to do a bit more of.
Ebreus maintains his practiced smile as the steam-punk guards again let him pass in his more cyber-punk like armor, "Good day." he comments as a plesantry to the guards on his way in. Upon seeing Heinrich sober and apparently happy his smile widens and seems a little more genuine. "Hello Professor." he says, "That is correct we've come to see if we may be able to negotiate a price for the servo. The RSX rep mentioned you didn't want to just give this one to us, might I inquire as to what you've come up with that might need one?"
The jackal seemed awfully nonchalant about their treck, his paws kept in his pockets and his head nodding to some kind of beat. Was he using that reproduction nanomagic on himself again, or was he just playing it back normally in his head? It didn't matter. He gives his friend and idle shrug and glances down at the paw in question. "Long story, gab about it later, and sure. Why not?" he yawns widely and surveys the scene as they make their way through the goblin lair. They did not look so threatening, some were even kind of cute, if one was into these kinds of things... but the jackal generally preferred his partners furry or scaly.
Once they arrive at their destination, the jackal looks utterly disinterested in pleasantries and casts the goblin a bemused glance. His gaze does wander towards the schematic, though... and the canine permits himself a peek of the decide thereupon. "Huh..." he takes a step forward and looks it over, then hooks one finger into his muzzle and ponders for a few moments. "Be good if you slapped a condenser here, boost the water flow past this segment here, I'd straighten out this part if possible, you don't want air bubbles gathering here, and they'll inevitably gather... and this piping looks way to thin to handle the flow leading into here, you'll end up causing needless pressure." *snap* he snaps his fingers "...they'll burst in a third of the whole installation's expected lifespan." the jackal offers a few suggestions, then continues to examine the prints.
"I suppose it certainly is warm in here. Took me a long time to get used to it, but we really do need the steam power to function here." Heinrich says.
Turning to Ebreus, he says "Oh. I don't need a servo like this, but I need one thing. Money."
"Well. That's among the reasons that it wasn't done." Heinrich says, suddenly irritated, he softens after a moment of looking the schematic over, "You are right. I guess I owe you for that. Were you one of my students, I'd count that as a 100% on an extra credit problem."
Heinrich rubs his brow, "I'd like at least 4 million freecred. I guess since you saved me so much time and energy, I'd be willing to reduce it to 3 million credits."
It is worth noting, that the research project had a budget around just 4 times that much. Perhaps it really is worth haggling this down as much as possible, as Niles suggested in the lobby. After all, it will end up taking another three after this one.
There's a sound on the edge of the party's ability to hear it, which passes out of the range of hearing of the party(maybe) before it lends itself to identification.
Melan keeps walking, following Ebreus' capable lead. They wondered how the hell they were going to raise/haggle the 3mil in cred. They shook their head. "The grind is real..." they muttered under their breath, determined to complete the job without a hitch.
Tugging at hir collar a little, Arris would bow to Heinrich. "Please excuse me while I go out and get a little air." With that, sie steps out of the boiler room. Fanning hirself a little with a newspaper, sie would cool down more. Eventually at a comfortable tempurature again, sie is about to return to the room... when sie starts hearing a noise. How odd - in this steampunk, brass facility of sorts, sie would expect to hear only the hiss of steam and the grinding of gears, but a more... 'meaty' sound was being heard. Curious, the sound would tempt hir from reentering the room to go take a peek at its source.
Ebreus nods as Heinrich explains that it's money and not demand for servos that is prompting him to sell it. He looks over to Otto as he peers over the goblin leader's schematics and then suggests improvements to them. He takes a short breath before Heinrich suggests a price and forces his practiced smile in response to it. "Might I ask how Margaret is getting along? Has she been able to get ahold of the transformative she mentioned wanting last we met?"
The jackal chuckles and steps back, leaning against the nearby wall. His ears perk up and he blinks a few times, musing out loud once the sounds become clear as day to him. "Sounds like someone is having fun over there." he says with a shake of his head and leans against the nearby wall. Right now, he felt a lot like Arris did, though he swallowed that down and soldiered through it. "I can do three mil, though it's obligatory that I ask what might be worth some more to you. Maybe one of us can offer you another service? If not, done deal." the canine shrugs nonchalantly and tilts his ears a bit, listening for more audible clues.
Nods towards Otto, "probably". At Ebreus' mention of his wife, he has a more visible reaction.
"Oh Margaret." He says, readjusting his suit "Ah..." He scratches the back of his head, "She is having some... issues with that right now. You might help reduce the price a bit if you might help her out. Would you all consider that? It's a bit of a medical issue, but we aren't biologists or doctors here, unfortunately, and you can imagine why I didn't take her to the hospital. Bunch of fucking lunatics."
Melan's ears perk up. Unless he had insinuated incorrectly, this goblin's wife needed medical attention. Though they only had limited experience as a field doctor, they looked at everyone expectantly, before raising his hand. "I... uh.. think we can help? What seems to be her problem?", he asks, engaged.
"It will be easier to show you." Heinrich motions for the group to follow him. Leading them through a fairly long corridor downwards underneath the workshop, running into Arris on the way, "Oh. Got lost down here huh?" He chuckles, "Follow along if you please."
At the end of this journey, it seems, is a vestibule with a closed door with a light over it. The door is locked, or so the glint of the deadbolt's metallic sheen in between the door and its frame would imply. Heinrich begins to explain, "She is well... As much as I hate to use a word the Victorians favored in their rather misogynistic medical practice, overcome her new addition... Though I have to admit, she's a dangerous amount of fun in the sack." Heinrich unlocks the door and pushes it in slowly. "Margaret," He says, speaking softly, "we have guests."
There's the sound of flushing water. How'd they get that set up? Heinrich starts to whisper to the group, "We have a custom built septic tank. One of our members was a professor specializing in wastewater management. We get our water from a rather large rain collector on the roof, and the roofs of several other buildings." Shit. These goblins have solutions to everything, even poop.
The door opens, letting out a waft of steam, and revealing the figure of Heinrich's wife. No doubt, a surprise to anyone who wasn't expecting a massively overendowed goblin hermaphrodite. She is clothed from the waist up, a victorian period dress might cover her, completely, but it wouldn't fix the fact that her testes are dragging along the ground, nor would it likely manage to preserve her modesty in the case of an erection, given that flacid, as it is now, it is as long as her leg. It is inordinately veiny. It's shape is half-penis, half-vein. As she walks into the room, it becomes clear, if only by her shaft's state of attention, that the sensation of the dragging testes probably isn't unpleasant.
She looks at the group and takes a seat on her own equipment.
"I must admit, I didn't expect this to be so.... Rutty. I mean," She starts to stroke herself, idly at first, but as she catches Heinrich's attention, it becomes clear that she has a goal in mind.
Heinrich toys with his collar, he's obviously conflicted and aroused. "What I'd like, is to find a solution for dealing with the rut without it being a long term solution."
"I'm sorry" He says, shivering, "I need some time with my wife" He shoos the group out of the door, closing it behind them.
Aftera few minutes, Heinrich Emerges, looking for more or less as clean and ordered as he was when he entered, an impressive feat, maybe. "Sorry about that." His smile is, if anything, slightly bigger than it was when he went in. His gait, however, is affected.
Melan blinks, rapidly. They've seen their share of weird things, but nothing can prepare you from the post P-day happenings that still manage to surprise and astound. This was no exception. "Uh... well, then." They looked rather amused.
As Arris wanders the halls of the building, sie would draw ever closer to the slapping noises. Sie would eventually realise what it was: probably someone having a gay old time to themselves. But it wouldn't hurt to check anyway, sie thought to hirself, trying to keep hir mind off of hir building lu- "Oh, hi, Mr. Heinrich. Eheh, yeaaah, I was looking for the bathroom so I wouldn't have to later." Sie would follow after the group as they went into Heinrich's wife's room, mind still lingering on that slapping.
The gator would eventually get what sie was looking for - Heinrich leads the group straight to the fapping noise to reveal his wife. Such an enormous set of jewels in proportion to their owner distraughts the gator, if only slightly: how often would one accidentally kick or trip on the delicates? Once sie is pushed out of the room by Heinrich, sie would look to hir group members. "Erm, what... why are we looking at this woman, again?"
Ebreus nods as he is lead, along with the rest of the group, down on Melans admition of being a medic of some description. He smiles as they encounter Arris off, as they had excused themselves, getting 'a little air', in the underground. Upon being lead down to where Margeret was and seeing her condition his expression doesn't change but he begins to wonder just how much of a discount they've just gotten themselves.
He complies when Heinrick shues them out sot hat she may have some time with his wife. He explains, "She's Heinricks wife and Heinrick asked us to help her with her problem." before he returns. He takes a small bottle out of his coat and pops the lid off but doesn't remove any. Then upon the return of Heinrick he says, "I believe we will be able to help the two of you out here." he taps the bottle, poping one tablet into his hand, and holding it out to Heinrick, "Rutkiller tablet. Should calm her down for a while." he explains.
The jackal keeps a neutral expression as he regards the... er... the goblin... just... just kinda, with a sideways glance, only because he has to... why did he choose to eat lunch today of all days? For once, he was glad he could look back at Heinrich, and was even MORE glad once the door shuts in front of them. A sharp whistle parts his lips, and a shake of his head follows. The canine takes a seat on the ground in the lotus position and pulls out his laptop. "I'm no medic, folks. If you're gonna do something to help the poor... woman... out, then go right ahead." he sighs deeply and opens up a folder of lewd images, kitsunes, huskies, bunny girls, curvaceous and shapely ladies and feminine males a'plenty, a soothing, welcome sight. He remains still, even once the door opens again.
Heinrich gives Otto a Critical glance and shakes his head.
"Thank you Ebreus. Could you send me the recipe for these? If you do that, I'll drop it down to 1 million." Heinrich says, grateful. "I'm a little bit surprised Ebreus. You didn't even try to low ball me or ask for a lower price. Isn't that normally a part of the process of haggling?"
Shaking their head to return them to their senses, Melan turns to everyone. "Well, uh... Guess we're about through here, eh?" he asked, pulling his kevlar tunic down to hide his own inadvertent arousal. "We still have 900k to raise, no?"
Arris hums. "I can only assume the problem is heat or lust or a big cock." The thought of it does stir hir heat, the gator discreetly rubbing at hirself as the anti-rut medicine is given. Trying to take hir mind off of ii once more, sie would circle around to Otto. "Mind if I take a peek a-oh." The many folders of attractive females catches hir off guard - definately not something sie expected Otto to keep on his person.
Ebreus smiles at Heinrick, "Well... we'd hardly begun the negotiation. I have had issues with strange effects upon my loved ones as well so I don't quite feel it to be right to try to suggest the pittance we've been given as a budget but I can offer the bottle I have on me now and a the promace of making an easily concealable divice that will provide it's effect with no need to pop pills it you're willing to cut the price by another two hundred and fifty thousand."
"That sounds acceptable." Heinrich says, "I think that sounds very fair. I'll have one of my messengers deliver the servo to RSX later tonight. Thank you for your sense of fairness."
After confirming the payment, he returns to the room.
Ebreus spends 740000 Freecred for RP reasons.
