Laurel entered, wearing most of her armour, but her helmet held at her right side. Her hair was tied into a single long braid down her back, keeping it out of the way, the armour itself not looking properly cleaned, but recently wiped down. Upon seeing Hisoka she would give a quick, polite nod, moving to stand near the wall, staying out of the way of anyone else who may enter.
Midday has come for the vixen was she was still in the middle of her testing ground for her weapon, a message comes into her comm for a invitation towards Hisoka's apartment. With a small glee she strapped it right back onto her back and starting trotting along with it cooling off, heading back to Zephyr as soon as she could. Opening the door, Light was just wearing her common work clothing as she walked in to see Laurel already in there. She gives the two of them a wave with a smile on her face. "I'm not late am I?"
It'd been a long and eventful few days for a little otter with big dreams and a drive for creation. His time had been spent mostly in heavy training to better his craft, and lately, himself in combat situations. Indeed, he bared the marks of war upon his person, both hidden beneath his snappy outfit, and on display upon his face and palms. What remained unmended by the nanites was slowly coming together once more, but taking claws to the face had left a temporary mark. His light limp spoke of a leg injury, though despite all that, he still seemed in good spirits, as he was most often.
With a casual swagger and a wandering glance did he step down the stairwell towards the military housings floor of the Zephyrian Headquarters, trusting no one, and feeling observed all the way. His distaste for the corporation in question was quite outspoken and well known, so could one really blame him for being cautions, even to the point of paranoia. Right now, in his moment of unease, he thought back to the bunny he'd met some days ago, and wished he was there with him for comfort's sake.
Standing before the door leading to the one he'd dubbed 'SlickNick', he adjusted his cuffs and checked his reflection in his disabled PDA screen one last time, before opening the door and making his way inside. The room was not much to speak of, but who was he to judge, he was no interior designer. To him, it was an abode much like any other... in the heart of the den of thieves and backstabbing double crosses, unfortunately. His eyes scanned the room, and spotted a familiar figure right off the bat. "LIGHT!" he exclaimed, and ran in to give his friend a big, tight hug, much as he always did!
Hisoka beckoned the group to sit at an impromptu conference table. Really its just a round table with some comfortable chairs. At any rate, Hisoka smiles at Otto, Laurel and Light. "You guys made it. Great! Well let's get down to business." He sits down in a relaxed state and will wait for the others to sit before he talks again. "Laurel take the floor and expose your idea to Otto and Light."
Laurel returned a small wave to light, smiling softly as Otto entered and reacted to the other woman. She waited to see where the others would sit, insuring she didn't take anyone's seat, and seating herself wherever remained empty. She huffed softly at the word expose, "You almost make it sound like a crime." She took a deep breath, managing the thoughts again much as she had before, cutting out the extra bits her mind kept trying to add on. "Alright. In essence, I'd like to rebuild the internet. I want to create an open communications network, using nanites to transfer information between choice devices at high speeds, and allow the users to control the flow of their own information. Privacy for everyone is preferred, but not the top priority at this point. I would also like to house the main servers at our own base, giving us a large degree of control over the network, and use relay nodes to expand that servers area of influence." She grit her teeth a little at the next thought. "From what Hisoka has told me, the costs of this endeavor can be handled, though I still believe them to be painfully high." She exhaled slowly, watching Otto and Light carefully, trying to determine what they thought about it before anything was said.
Light eeps! as she gets a giant big hug from the otter, hugging him back affectionately before getting out of the grip. Placing her prototype to the side of the room, she blinks for a moment before looking a the conference table, heading towards the impromptu conference table and sits down to listen in to everything. Nodding a bit to using the nanites as sort of a network, she raises an eye brow a bit when she noticed the teeth grit.
"That does sound an awful lot. I mean how much would it cost? What materials we would have to make, and to make sure we dont supersede the server. Though if we can use the bubble..." She bites down on the bottom half of her lip, being a bit lost somewhere. Her tails shift from side to side.
Hisoka comments "It's expensive, but not something I cannot cover. Here is the plan. I proceed to buy the first server slash relay, which costs around 175 Mako charged nanites." He pauses to let that sink in. "After that about once a month I can buy from Zephyr territory that we will use to establish slave relays to increase the effective radius of the EyeNet. Of course we are offering this for free but we might have to pay Zephyr some kind of fee..." He frowns heavily "Knowing how they are quite money hungry. However that can be a blessing: hopefully they take the Mako and Creds and not ask questions."
Releasing his lovely kitsune friend, Otto smiles toothily at her, before moving towards his allocated spot at the table. Pulling the chair, he hopped atop, and leaned against the table, interweaving his fingers and observing his fellow agents. His attention was immediately drawn to a rather charismatic human female, ears perking up and face clad in iron as she explained her idea. His calculative mind immediately raced with the potential benefits and drawbacks to such a project, analyzing the costs and weighing it up against the good it would do, scrutinizing the potential safety risks, information leaks and potential of having a negative influence on the nanites within them.
He was not as familiar with the nanomachines as he was with old tech, programming and repurposing salvageable electronics, creating fully functioning semi-sentient machines, thusly he pictured the accomplishment of the project in a different way. Still, it seemed as though Laurel was intent on using the nanites in the area to create this network... which was concerning. "I see..." he nods and listens as she goes on, pondering the most optimal way of avoiding a security issue. This was, of course, of the utmost importance to him, as if they were to hold the webserver within their halls, it was likely they would need to integrate it with the main dataserver for the sake of conserving energy and processing power. This was an issue... It would mean that Otto and Light were to risk exposing their digital copies of their designs to any and all with enough skill to hack into their mainframe. Unless...
"I do have some things to say about this. Normally setting up a webserver and protecting it is child's play. Sadly, old tech is hard to come by, and it is our best bet on having a reliable system. To create an 'internet', which would really be more of an 'intranet' given it's described purpose and function, we would need working old world computers, a core of software for me to build upon, a radiotransmitter, or several and a decent amount of processing power." he explains calmly.
"This is, of course, assuming we are to use old technology with a solid foundation to build upon. Doing so would yield the fastest, and likely the highest quality result. My concerns are the effects of certain wavelengths on the nanites. I am yet unaware of what spectrum the main server uses, and what would cause interference... but do go on." he says and leans back against his arms.
Laurel nodded towards Otto, understanding his concerns. "I used the more common term to avoid possible confusion, but you are absolutely correct. I understand the hardware being an issue, but I assure you, the software won't be a hindrance at all. If the nanites don't end up being a plausible strategy, my original plan was to use old radio towers, similar to a broadband connection, though I've been describing that as wireless dial up for the sake of simplicity in most cases as well." She untied her boot strings quickly, letting them slip off her feet and in front of her chair, crossing her legs and pulling her feet up under her once again in order to gain some much needed height over the table. "My biggest issue is the hardware side of it, networking was one of my specialities, even if I am eight years rusty on it. Specifically, security. The theory behind making this work is fairly simple though, from the software side at least." She opened her mouth briefly to add something, having a second thought and keeping it to herself for now.
Hisoka shakes his head "Old tech is out of the question. We cannot shield them from nanite decay. -Unless- you meant we craft it with modern mods and materials but with an old tech form. At any rate the other problem is I still have to buy the relay from Zephyr. Otherwise we are just competing and that is a big no." He pauses and takes a deep breathe while looking at Otto "I know you are a genius, but we cannot rely on old tech. It would cost more in the long run due to maintenance. Plus it is risky in terms of what Zephyr might think of it. Not to mention we are in their backyard when the base is setup."
The dusk dragon interlaces his hands "For now let's focus on the following: we can indeed buy a server slash relay and set it up in the base. We can buy two channels: one will be free and the other will be encrypted for our security..." No he didn't read minds but he got a pretty good idea of what Otto was talking about. "Costs are not much of an issue. By having nanite shielded relays to expand the wireless system it cuts down on maintenance on the long run. Furthermore our systems will not be compromised: that's why we partition our tech and such separate from this server."
Light raises another eyebrow in the entire ordeal of making it with the nanites to create a network hub, a smaller shift when Hisoka did mention that Zephyr would have a fee to be paid with. Tails swaying more side to side when thinking about it. Nanotechnology was still far too changing with all the nanites obeying what the bubble server wants it to do, even processing and accepting request sent by crafters when they needed something crafter to be done. Her eyes did gleam for a moment in a bit of surprise when she remembered that vital information.
"Then if we want to run it that we have to make sure everything is calibrated and our frequency is exactly right else we might disturb or even worst." She thinks on it some more and then realizes that something can an go wrong. "Wait wait wait.... what about people with nanomagic? That could be a problem if they can disturb the frequency or even the nanites around it." That bit of disturbing information might have been causes her ears to droop some, in thinking that something can go wrong here.
"Unless we can use the Bubble's server and write up a code for it to accept and create a terminal for us to access and store data upon, then allowing anyone else to be able to connect to that terminal. That still will be dependant on the bubble itself, and we would have to set one up on each bubble along with a code form them to communicate with each other..."
The otter rolls his eyes and smirks quaintly. "No no, you are absolutely right. Risking a security incident by employing technology that is easy to come by and craft, moreso such that we would be hard pressed to encrypt properly, just to refrain from having to do a bit of maintenance every year or so, that sounds marvellous." he shakes his head as his smile vanishes. "I will not be having security leaks, Hisoka. Either we approach this with a fully modifiable webserver that relies on itself and itself alone to operate, or this system must and will be independent from the main HQ database, restricting it's functionality to no more than an over-glorified personal social media." he declares firmly. "I will NOT be having any uppity nosy Prommies or other snoops trying to access our collective database, ESPECIALLY if it means that the digital copies of our inner workings will be stored there!"
A long and exasperated sigh escapes the otter as he leans forward against the table and rubs his temples lightly. "Even so... I must admit that using nanite tech would solve the interference issue..." he grunts and mutters something vulgar about nanites, before continuing his thought. "The only workaround I can see is to build a specific software from the ground up, getting it to integrate with the nanite-reliant tech will be a pain. Developing a proper security system, be that via encryption or otherwise will be an even BIGGER pain, but it is doable." he states, then pauses to ponder for a moment.
It was at that time that his gaze snapped onto Light. She'd pretty much stolen his words from his mouth. "What my lovely associate just said is quite valid. Transmissions outside the bubble would be nigh impossible, and folks with Anti-Nanomagic for example can put an easy choke hold on our system if they so desire. One has to consider these things in the even that we make a powerful enemy."
Laurel did not appreciate his sarcasm, though she made sure it didn't show. "Exactly how different are the new nanite computers from the old world ones?" The nanites were really the only wild card for her, otherwise, with enough time, she could bring up old knowledge and build the system herself. "You give me a couple months and I can make sure nothing, from the outside at least, will ever touch what it's not supposed to. Provided nanites don't completely destroy everything I knew at least." She paused briefly and turned to Hisoka. "He does have a point though. Even if you partition everything separately, it's possible to navigate to information outside your partition if you're savvy enough. That doesn't mean that partitioning is a waste of time, just that it's not enough." As far as what Light said, well, she didn't understand enough about the nanites themselves to comment on it, she would forfeit that to the other woman.
Hisoka thinks about the different things being told at the conference. "I value everyone's contribution. Sadly I am pretty sure that because we need to obtain this from Zephyr, that they will have access. For now then let us turn it into a BBS style project. I have the techno magic and so does Otto. We can download information that isn't sensitive. In other words like the Wikipedia when it launched in 2001." He pauses and clears his throat. "We will have to rely on trust and mostly us making the rounds to make sure the data is not fucked up. We have to start small. That's the only way I see it for now: a system that can be hooked on by any comm unit. Said system is open for reading data but also modification of data. Said system is separate from our true HQ systems like Otto mentioned. Said system will be accessible by Zephyr, because we have to do it with their green light. And says system might probably require fees, which I can easily pay,"
Light closes her eyes and sighs a bit, she opens her eyes and looks back towards Hisoka. "Yeah that can work, it still is gonna take work from our end. Then we will also have to make sure Zephyr isnt just gonna bleed us for funding because if that happens." She rolls her eyes a bit. "And that also means we need people to act as intelligence on the field so we can keep everything updated." She smiles. "And with the more people the more accurate, along with the guideline of Zephyr and such... When the greenlight gets put up, well probably before, we should gather up the data we need and show them what we are going to do."
The otter's brow furrows even deeper at the prospect of giving those backstabbing double agents access to his contributions to the division. He was aware that the easiest option was to rent this service from them, but refused to speak of it for his own reasons. With a deep sigh and a deep nod, he conceded. "Fine. We'll have Zephyr handle this, the information will be handled as demanded, with one exception." *thud* he hits his paws firmly on the table "My information will not be entering that database, if any of the operatives are interested in something of mine, be that a design, a report or anything else, I wil be the only one to distribute this information." he declares firmly, glancing between the agents in the room.
"I still have knife wounds in my back, and Ixchel herself will fuck me sideways before I let that happen again." he says, then leans right back in his seat. "A primitive interface would probably be achievable, given that we will be transmitting nothing more complicated than text to be displayed on a screen. I am pondering that it will be a simplistic series of directories, most of which will have restricted access to outsiders.. besides Zephyr." he comments with a blank expression, staring dead-center at the table before looking back up. The idea definitely didn't appeal, but so far as he kept his data private, he had little reason to object. It was a sobering reminder that the division he was working with was most strongly affiliated with the very corporation he so heavily distrusted.
Hisoka looks sympathetically towards Otto.
Laurel leaned back, assessing Otto's reaction, suddenly understanding a lot more of the situation. "I don't think anybody would expect otherwise of you Otto. At least, I hope not." she said, her voice dropping to a softer tone. She wasn't particularly happy either, this system wasn't remotely close to what she had originally imagined, but it was definitely a start. If no progress was made, she might as well trash all the aspirations she had. "The original system will most likely be something to help everybody then. Keep track of information like where feral packs are, what areas are dangerous, and then a common area for people who just want to read or learn. I have no doubt we can put together a better database of free information than what is already offered. Help more people get themselves up onto their feet as well." Her hands fell into her lap, fingers twiddling under the table, but despite the change in her voice, her eyes were steely and determined.
Hisoka looks sympathetically towards Otto. He gives a little sigh "I know and I understand that Otto. I mean I know why you are saying these things. No, it isn't because I know anything of your past, which I don't." He takes a deep breathe and rubs his temples "It's more on the basis that I know what Zephyr is capable of doing." He then extends a hand to Otto's own and squeezes it in a comforting way "It won't happen again. I promise you, you I wont allow it." He retracts his hand and says "All right, Otto is correct. Anything and everything that is the Eye does NOT go into this system. We are offering a service but not offering up our secrets and such. Therefore anyone who violates this will be expelled from the Eye..." He gives an agreeing nod with Otto while saying "At any rate we will be separate from this system." He then pauses and says "On that note I believe I found a way to provide power to our base." He extends his hand and creates an illusion. It is shown in a 3D model like form of a power plant. "Otto and Light, I need you to work on this. It will be nanite shielded and most of it is industrial strength or at least enough to power us at highest efficiency we can get it to do so. This is a refitted power plant that uses Mako Batteries to power our base. The electricity will be sent through copper nanite shielded wires. If either of you feels they can improve on this, do so."
Minerva rolls over on the bed and groans softly, covering her head with a pillow.
Soft hums from the vixen, looking at each and everyone. She then gives a nod towards Otto, Hisoka, then Laurel in order with a little smile coming towards her face. "Alright, just say where we can start building because we are gonna need some space to do actually build it. Getting the little parts though will be no worries." Her smile turns into grin as she started looking over the 3D illusion of a powerplant. "That's gonna be a moment before we have everything in order, how long you think before we have all the material Otto?" The Plant was going to be a good amount of work, especially to have it running at optimal capacity
That, he did not expect. The otter could only look upon his paw, then at Hisoka in confusion as he spoke of terms that would heavily inconvenience his benefactors... which just seemed so bizarre. He squinted lightly at first, but smiled ever so lightly in the end, not at the empty promise that the dragon could indeed handle enough of the Zephyrian internal affairs to prevent another incident, but rather at the sudden decision to deny Zephyr of the most critical information they could use against them, if ever they turned on the Eye. It was a good decision, one Otto could actually respect, a novel display from the shady dragon, and while he appreciated it, he still clung onto his skepticism. It was, after all, the only defence he had against being toyed with, like a string puppet.
While he was antsy about being subject to illusion nanomagic, his eyes locked onto the model Hisoka had conjured for the sake of the demonstration. Slowly he nodded as the information whizzed through his head, plotting and planning out the tools he might need and the potential damage he could expect. His ears perked up as his lovely kitsune colleague spoke to him, posing the all important dilemma. Time... "Not long, copper shouldn't be an issue. Light, I'm not so familiar with mako batteries. I know only the basics in that regard. If you could send me something to read up on, I'd be very appreciative." he replies warmly "The rest should be fairly simple, it's mostly gruntwork once we get the power flowing."
Laurel spared a soft smile back towards the vixen. She tried to follow the two engineers as well as she could, but found herself becoming lost, eyes glazing over at the model of the power plant. She took the key words and locked them away in her head, knowing she'd have to repeat them in her mind later if she wanted them to stay with her for any real period of time. For the time being, she just sat quietly and listened.
Hisoka catches movement from the corner of his eyes and smiles. He gets up and walks to the bed, then sits on it. "wake up sleepy head." He moves his hand under the pillow and gently caresses Minerva's face. He still was paying attention to the discussion. "All right. I found what we need. The Mini Server. It will allow all of us to utilize data nanomagic for the ends of creating the EyeNet. We will still have to modify them the hard way though."
Minerva grumbles under the covers, still clearly trying to remain asleep.
"Right, I'll start sending you something on mako batteries in a moment. Let me just get the file on it." Light pulls away some and then gets to her comm, swapping through it for a moment before her ears perked up with a gleeful, "Aha!" With a smile on the face she then presses something and looks at Otto. "Should be heading towards you now." As she giggles and leans back onto the plant. "Mini Servers? Yeah Hisoka, that's gonna be a lot of work and still wont be perfect unless we do it carefully."
"Right." the otter nods and silently turns off the sound to his terminal with a few precise touches of the device within his pocket. The file would arrive soon, and he didn't much want to disturb folks with it's incessant beeping. "Thanks, Light. I'll get this memorized in no time, so..." he clasps his paws and rubs them together, feeling a bit better than before. "Are we all set?"
Laurel bit the inside of her lip softly, sitting a little further back into her chair. "I understand that as far as this plan goes, I can't directly help until we already have power, but there has to be something I can do, even outside of these plans, right?" She looked almost defeated by that thought, her hands dropping a little more heavily into her lap as she spoke.
Hisoka mischievously removes the pillow from Minerva's face then leans in to his her softly. The kiss doesn't last all that long "That was my good morning kiss." He chuckles and then he perks up as he focuses on Light. "I know. It's still a lot of work. And we have to make sure the data is not damaged when people write to it.' He lets a out a sigh "Let's focus on the small things then slowly make them grow. The important thing is that Zephyr does not see us as some kind of competition. The Division mainly is autonomous but I would like to keep the support of all the Factions if possible. The idea is to slowly fix this world, not make it worse." He smiles at the group as he slowly caresses Minerva with his hand. He looks at Laurel and comments with a smile "You are doing a lot already."
Minerva returns Hisoka's short kiss, before sitting up on the bed. She blinks. "Damaging data? What?"
Light nods happily at keeping all the factions supporting it all together. "Well that would be perfect, keeping all the factions in it together. And don't worry Laurel, remember that you always have to be patient for something beautiful to bloom, especially in these times." Before she finishes talking she looks towards the woman sleeping and talking about the damaging data, giving her a nod. "Unless there is more information that we need, we can start work at any time. Probably let Otto learn more about mako batteries first before anything else."
