If she doesn't seem to answer Mokou's question, it's because answering Ebreus's question worked for both, as best as she can tell. As for Satan, she gives a little smirk. "Yes, you should. A touch of a smile was offered, the lass gesturing to them. "So forgive me for speaking off the cuff... But this is not a game of chess you speak of. This is not one move is made, the other goes in turn, and one battles it in such a manner." The lass nodded to the assembled crowd. Glancing back to the one known as Father, she simply shook her head. The answer already forthcoming. "I know myself that there are nearly a dozen groups that are here. As has been brought up time and time again in this forum, we... as a people, are split. Dozens of groups that are split in a hundred directions, all seeing their cause as just and right. And they have lived long enough, that they can find that sort of comfort in the inaction they take." |

+ | The fennec looked back to Aaron, a touch of a sad smile given. "This is not a game of chess here as is thought of, but a game of chess where each piece thinks it is their turn, and they all have a different rule set. It is a pool of hundreds of people moving every which way they can, and some how surviving from this. So my question... is simple. We need to start. But without direction, we will amble in a hundred thousand directions as we have for the last decade. If we split it among ourselves, we will find a thousand different solutions, claiming the ones that we have found are right. We will come to a thousand different conclusions, and nothing will be done. You brought us together to see if we are interested... we are. And we all had something different we wanted to speak on. Each question worthy of a discussion of its own. So I have to ask... What do we start on?" The lass held up a hand preimptivly, dismissing an immediate response. "To say "Here and now" is fine. It is magnitude without direction. It is force with a start but no end. So... you brought us together as a spark to burn the fires of a new tommorow. What burns first?"<br> <br>Anagram finds that the meeting is satisfactory to him, and turns to leave. Aaron isn't the one to talk to to push his agenda, so he'll have to wait and make more plans.<br> <br>The vulpine adjusted her glasses, as she thought of her own response, seeing as everything was basically said, but with each word, her own desire began flaming. "We need to start, that much is true. But you cannot fault Aaron for this lack of direction, because she is not a politician. Her intentions are pure however, and her desire is one that we probably all share. And it may be out of line for me to suggest this, I do think we should at least build a foundation here and now. We have a varied view about our future, that much is true, and each has different ideas. But it is also common interests that brought us together, and that allowed us this dialogue. So, I will second the suggestion that we should instate an open group, for us to reconvene, and talk about the future workings of a government." Vari sighed. "It's not a simple task, I realize, but what else can we do if we all want this to succeeed."<br> <br>Aaron nods her agreement to Father. "Precisely." she answers. "All of these points - the structure and purpose of our new government, the handling of potential hostiles, taxation and representation, police presence, how voting happens and what checks and balances we use, even how to progress this effort, all of these are things we can touch upon in a more stable, list-item-oriented setting. Whether or not you all realize it, your questions have been the genesis of the organization of this effort. They're good questions; are you willing to help me answer them?" | ||

+ | Mokou receives a gentle smile from the bunny, who points to the chairs on stage. "These aren't just here for show." she explains. "So since the questions seem to be winding down for now, I have an invitation to extend. If any of you are willing to commit to action - maybe not this very moment, because good lord my head hurts, but soon - I want you to join me on this stage. Take a seat. Let your presence here stand (sit) as testament to your commitment to push forward." Pausing for just a moment, she continues, "Without your help, my vision is dead in the water...but together, I'm convinced we can do this."<br> <br>Ebreus nods, "I think at very least we all have something to start working on so that we'll at least have the aspects of government and from there be able to flesh out how they fit together and what needs to be revised." he says. He smiles and continues, "We each at least have something to work on in the time between our next meeting."<br> <br>Father had absolutely no clue in which capacity he would work, but he'd cast a gave back to the tattooed beast's exit path before resting himself somberly on a seat. "I'm interested in trying to shape a better future. Not sure how it's gonna happen yet, but I'm willing to try."<br> <br>Edel rubs at one of her ears, nodding slowly. It had been an enlightening thing to sit in and listen on, certainly. She shuffles forward, tail swaying behind her as she takes a seat.<br> <br>Vari stepped forward. No, not only forward but upwards to, right on the stage. "I am no politician either, but I do realize this is a course we must take. And while we do have our differences, it's those differences that make us much more likely to get to common grounds that do not benefit only one set of people. And while my group would simply takke the responsibility of the executive branch, it would be a start. So...I will lend you my support in your efforts, Aaron. For a future of our own sovereignity."<br> <br>Astara smiles at that invitation... she stands up, making her way carefully over to the stage, and eventually up onto it. "Well. Hopefully I don't need to sit in one of *those* chairs, unless you're okay with some collateral damage." she remarks with a smirk, giggling a little. Given her size and her predisposition for leakiness, she decides to sit down on the ground, towards one of the ends of where the seats are. Trying to not block the way *too* much. <br> <br>Miru continued on taking her notes, focusing intently on all those who never declared who they represent or their interests...and as it happens those people also tended to look the most...'trustworthy'. "One more thing, I hope that none of you are forgetting those who benefited from the chaos and would dislike a new government that is not willing to look the other ways. After all, cities like Eureka already complain of criminal presence." The okami said with a little bit less cheer as she decided to go take a seat. "I personally promise that I will attempt to always keep the people of Fairhaven and outside informed so they can form their own opinions without being manipulated." That was Miru's statement, others might interpret it as Miru publicly voicing her death wish, but opinions always vary. |

Aaron enters the yard from the inside, looking a little tired but otherwise none the worse for wear. The yard has been slightly modified, with a makeshift stage in front of the entrance to the edifice itself, lined with several simple chairs. Instead of making her way to one of said chairs, she approaches the podium, which seems to have a small gavel resting upon it. Once there, she waits for people to filter in, unsure of what to expect.
Dapper-dressed, as always, a well-groomed gentleman strides along into the open area before the privately-owned venue. A light hum plays from the man's lips, and his pin-striped attire seems tailor-fit with how it hugs his figure. Satan pauses to peruse the environs with his eyes. A political meeting, they say?
Edel was never one for politics, really, but those who don't make history are forgotten by it, and she can't have that, certainly. Dressed in her black and gold regal silks, she shuffles into the aream sleeves linked as she turns away to hide a sleepy yawn. It should be interesting, at least.
Ebreus glides to a landing a short distance away from the grounds of the La Maison d'Etre. After his landing he makes his way in to the meeting, smiling in anticipation of the Town Hall. As he makes his way in he spots Aaron and the vampire as he makes his way to the front row.
Today was the day. The day when things... Well... probably wouldn't change much, but the start of it could happen. Planting seeds... Seeds to change it all. Mokou walked up to the edge of that yard, designated as it had been in the messages circulating through town... Word of mouth, a few flyers that had been distributed, and of course, more than one message from a particularly persistant reporter. La Maison d'Etre. She quietly brushed down her shorts, a few breaths taken in, out, and back again. Remember what this is for. Remember... Slowly slipping in, the little fennec lass moved to the side, making her way towards simple chairs, soon securing one for her own. Here's for making history... Be it for good, for for ill. The speaker, a bunny lass, didn't quite look familiar. But, well... Were this to go through... would effect everyone. She simply offered a slight smile, nodding their way. Let's see how this goes...
Ciana slowly enters the Town Hall grounds, still dressed in her holiday gear, lightly waving to Ebreus as she takes a seat at the back row. While, for the smolfox, politics seemed to be of low priority, she looked intentively at the place the speaker was to be.
Anagram watches from the back, a shirtless kemomimi german shepard with jeans and boots. His criminal reputation will get him a lot of stares at a political meet, but he has interests that need securing for the future. So he looks over the people who gathered, sizing up their influence and the effort it would take to set up his plans.
Near the edge of the stage was a familiar figure to some. The little okami was clad in a new attire, looking like a journalist from the wrong era, and was busy writing things down on her notebook. But once people started filtering in, Miru closed her notebook, grabbed a little sphere on the ground and jumped on stage, staying near the back.
The kemo-canine would then proceed to set the sphere on the ground and take out a little device. A minute of messing about passes before finally the little sphere springs into life and begins rising into the air, eliciting a wide grin from the journalist. "Sweet caramel...so pretty." She whispered to herself as the drone continued on its upward movement to get th best vantage point of the meeting.
The okami would then quickly rush towards the podium and set up a little recording device on it, giving Aaron a quick thumbs up before rushing towards the back again, seemingly finally finishing her burst of activity.
Aaron watches on with a hopeful expression as people of all stripes begin to filter in. Good, good, this is what she was hoping for. People taking an interest in their government is a good first step. Now to give them something to listen to. Okay, deep breath. "Ladies, gentlemen, and everything else." she calls out, to bring the meeting to order. "Thank you for attending this meeting. What we undertake here is the very beginnings of a proper government for this region of California. Zephyr and RSX have kept us alive until now, but we cannot be held to corporate interests for the rest of our lives. We need to seek autonomy for ourselves, and there's no other way to start than to forge some basic tenets. This path will not be easy, but it will be rewarding in the end if we stick with it. Any questions?" This said, she watches to see if anyone runs screaming into the streets.
Lifting his hand, the dapper fellow flags in a motion to try and gain attention for his own question after Aaron's words, Satan showing off a warm smile.
Those wide ears of hers gave Mokou at least a sharp inclination of the rabbit's words. Perhaps would be interesting... but no matter. Spying that daper fellow before raising his hand, she too... did so.
Astara wasn't always one for dressing up, or dressing much at all! Her proportions and tauric structure limited options significantly... and, she just preferred generally to not be squeezed into some tight-fitting clothing like a sausage, being more than okay with being nude.
Today was an exception, though: this was an important day, so the large foxtaur padded in in style. Astara had her upper half clad in a tight-fitting but immaculately clean suit-jacket, her two rows of breasts on her upper half absolutely fighting to break free of their tight confines; yet, for a post-nanite world, she was covered decently there. She even had a taur-skirt of sorts to complement her top, but that could only do so much. It left most of her furry breasts and balls on display, but she was just so absurdly endowed that it almost became that hiding in plain sight! She couldn't have covered it all up unless it went most of the way to the floor, and that would be a recipe for a messy skirt. It was a miracle she kept her top dry given her leakiness.
Astara arrived fashionably late, padding in right as Aaron opened up. She surveyed the attendees first, and seeing Mokou, she quickly trots over beside the familiar fennec, giving a little wave! Yet, besides a little "Hello, long time no see!", the taur draws her attention right to Aaron... and Satan, and Mokou again.
Ebreus smiles as the speaker sets the basics of what they are going to be discussing. He raises his upper right hand above his head and waits to be aknoledged... and hopes the procedings are well structured enough that no disturbances will be necessary to have a say.
Vari walked into the yard, wearing a rather elegant evening dress in white, and a large sunhat in the same color with some fake roses attached to it. In her gloved hands she was carrying a silver suitcase with the K9 emblem on it. looking through the crowd, she was trying to study as many faces as possible, out of interest of course, but also because of her work. She listened to the words that Aaron spoke carefully. Nodding to herself, the kemo vulpine walked towards the stage, and off to the side. It was a better place to look over the crowd. After all, she still was unsure as to what such an event as this could bring.
Aaron nods her head, first pointing to Satan, then to Mokou, then to Ebreus. "The three of you, in order. Each question will be answered before we proceed." She seems rather pleased...good. There *should* be questions, and lots of them. This is the future of the region she's talking about, after all.
Cruz entered the yard alongside Vari, giving her one last encouraging rub to the shoulder before parting ways and letting her take to the stage. She eyeballed the crowd with a detached expression, avoiding eye contact and simply fading into the background. She took a deep breath and exhaled, trying to calm her nerves... crowds were not her thing, but this occasion seemed too important to miss.
Miru already had her notebook and pen out again, apparently setting the floating drone to automated. The okami on the other hand was quite animated, almost jumping in her place as she eyeballed the arrivals, gaze lingering on the more well-known members of the community as if she was going to get answers out of them by just staring.
Giving a genteel incline of his head, the dapper-dressed man says in a clear, carrying baritone-tenor, "Though we come here in good will and in a good cause, what assurances of authority that what we accomplish here today will have a true bearing in the community and be acknowledged by the various factions? Each of us in our own riht have formed into a subfaction or made connections. What will be the glue that binds it together, and who are you to make such claims of it? I will hope what transpires will be lasting." He dips his head in another cordial motion before coupling his hands before him to await the response.
Aaron nods her understanding. "That's a fair question. I claim no dominion over anyone or anything, sir. My hope is that the people of this land will band together of their own free will. There is, undoubtedly, a chance that this effort will falter...but if it does, it will falter because the people of this land *choose* for it to falter. I can offer nothing more than a vision and an opportunity; I am the spark that lights the fire, but without tinder, it will not burn." That said, she gestures to Mokou. "And now, you."
There was a brief moment as Mokou lifted her hand, something brushing by her at the edge of her senses. A scent that was familiar, tingling at the very edges of her mind. It was as a memory pushed back forced its way forward... and as the lass turned for a moment, spying them... it was clear. The little fennec's face nearly lit up, a halfhearted chuckle falling from her lips. "Well fancy seeing you here Astara! Come, come..." Standing for a moment, the lass pushed a few of the seats aside to make way for the massive taur. "Been a great while indeed! Though... Well..." Not the time. Not the time. "She shook her head, a slight smile offered. "... Let's catch up after this, hmm?"
Ah the beauty of those ears of hers. The bunny speaker's words caught in her ears, the fennec turning back towards their speaker, a bit larger a smile on her maw. "Ah, of course! Now then... You state that we are here establishing tenents. Just to clarify, we will be building this system from the ground up then, not taking the ideals and structure of any preceding governmental form, and declaring it our own. Is this correct?" Her eyes darted back to that well dressed gentleman... But said nothing at least for his question.
Aaron considers Mokou's question, and begins to pace on the stage. "Not entirely." she answers. "Our fallen government did a lot of things right. It also did a lot of things wrong, and we suffered for it. My hope is for this attempt to have all the hallmarks of a second try: this time, we learn from our mistakes and do better. For example: my hope is for us to remain democratic in nature. On the other hand, I'd like us to avoid having a figurehead for the corrupt to hide behind. No president or prime minister, more of a council. A Congress, if you will, smaller in scope. (At least for now.)" Her finger is then pointed to Ebreus. "Your turn."
Ebreus smiles as he is quickly aknowledged and lowers his hand. He clears his throat as he rises to his full eight foot seven inch standing hight. As the vampire who raised their hand before him speaks he hums quietly to himself as they pose a question he had not considered. "First if I may pose an aditional response to the first questioner: It appears that the pre-existing sub-factions could prove benefitial. Should we craft a charter that the subfactions can be convinced to accept it is feisable that their... authority for lack of a better term could be used to support the fledgling government." He then redirects his attention to Aaron and smiles, "Thank you. Now my question has been mostly answered between the answers already given but I would ask this: Where would you propose we begin scrutiny of the previous government and construction of a new one?"
"Like I'd miss out on being *here*, when it's Aaron running the thing! Let alone others I recognize, you included." Astara comments quietly to Mokou during a lull of speaking, as to not interrupt the fennec's or other's dialogues with Aaron. "Meeting up sounds like a good idea~" The taur remarks as she pats Mokou on the back, and settles down on the floor. Given she's in the eight to nine foot range in height, she's still REAL tall and able to be seen more than enough.
Astara also gives Miru a wave--recognizing her--before she raises her other hand to indicate she has something to say.
Upon hearing the answer to Mokou's question, the okami quickly raises her hand as well, taking a couple of steps forward to make sure that she is seen.
Anagram keeps a good ear on the proceeding questions and answers, his ear twitching at '...figurehead for the corrupt to hide behind.' He moves around the side of the crowd to get a better look at the stage, now looking right at Aaron. He doesn't add anything to the questions for the moment, but he's paying close attention.
Satan bides until the current series of questions have been answered, listening in turn and nodding in assent to what Ebreus asks, listening intently for the answer.
Aaron nods to Ebreus. "Actually, I'll answer both of those." she offers. "First, it's my goal to invite all the various sub-factions and cities and what-have-you to join in our government, so that they might have their fair say. If there's any way this could possibly go wrong, it would be to form the sort of government that would try to annex or exclude. The fact that our best chance for survival is to stand together hasn't changed, and isn't likely to." A deep breath is drawn, and she continues, "As for where we would begin scrutiny of our previous government and construction of a new one: here. Now. We've had a decade to build up to survivability and review the mistakes of the past. Now is the time to act on that knowledge, to take what we've learned and put it into action." Now that she's getting into the swing of things, she points to Astara, then Miru. "You, then you. I'll answer both of you at once."
The even keel of the quiet gentleman made his way into the area with a warm and simple step. His balance was light, his focus was channeled and unchecked checked as he skimmed over the crowd. Currently he was quietly assenting to the points that were made about the governments of the past. His own eyes catching Anagram's ear twitch, returning his gaze just afterward at the "... Figurehead for the corrupt to hide behind." point himself. Averting his gaze back to the center, listening intently just the same. He'd wait at the fringe, checking for other faces he might recognize before taking a seat. A quick nod was given in Mokou's direction, second guessing where else he could sit, clearly having no desire to hit the stage... Yet.
Ciana meekly raises a paw to indicate that she wants to say something, blushing in embarrassment at the thought of saying something that she would regret.
Miru smiles as Aaron points at her, nodding her head, "Well...first, greetings everyone. My name is Miru, I am sure a good number of you know me from spamming the online news bulletins, among others. First of all, I would like to suggest that it might be better for everyone involved if people who are asking questions introduced themselves, and maybe mention what do they do. I think it will be beneficial for everyone if we know what vested interests are at play."
With that being said, the okami coughs, "As for my question, it appears that you are planning on building the new government to still be partially inspired by the old government...so, what are your suggestions for dealing with The Patriot and the Old World Order, they do not seem to be willing to budge on their idea of a government."
Astara perks up, nods, clearing her throat. She doesn't really *have* to stand up like others might, just continuing to sit where she is. "Thank you, Aaron, lets see, where to begin..." she pauses, taking a breath, closing her eyes momentarily to think. "It's inevitable that taxation and revenue is to be a question: how shall we handle this? Government might represent us, allow us to air our complaints and concerns in the public venue and come to solutions like civilized individuals... but, it provides services, too. Services cost resources, *money*, to run. As someone who's entire professional life has been towards rebuilding, infrastructure, and the like... I'm curious. The fact my organization owns the old hub of transportation in Fairhaven certainly makes such personally relevant to me, too."
Aaron begins to pace. "Two very good questions. First, the Patriot and his Old World Order. I extended an invitation for him to contact me; he has yet to do so. That offer is still open. His vision and mine are not completely at odds, but I will say that nationalism and emotional nanomagic have no place in my vision. We're constructing the future, not living in the past." Regarding Astara's question, she gives a firm nod. "That is definitely one of the things we're going to have to work out. You're absolutely right; a system of taxation and a means to collect it will be essential, especially if we're going to financially liberate ourselves. I hope we can work together to create a system we can all live with."
There is a pause, and she turns to the audience at large to clarify, "Just in case there's any confusion: while I absolutely intend to help with the forging of our new government, the details will not be churned out tonight. Tonight is a sort of...mission statement, if you will. A test for interest. If the people of this land don't want a government, then we shouldn't have one. The good news is, these questions are encouraging. You're thinking about this seriously. Good! So am I." Her gaze falls to Ciana, and she smiles at the shy fennec. "Go ahead, it's your turn."
Just keeping watch on the crowd for now, Vari quietly listened to all that was asked and said. And she agreed to most of the points given. But she raised her head at the questions asked by the apparent reporter, which did kind of made her stir a bit. And Astara's question also brought another point. What Vari wanted was to provide a service as well, one that would need to be funded, as she couldn't pay all of it out of her own pockets. She stepped forwards a bit, and raised her own hands, turning to the stage.
Ebreus nods as he gets his answer and hums as he considers how to fix the previous system. He listens to the next few questions, and the replies, as he considers where to begin. He glances over to Astara as she asks her question and explains her position. At this point he raises his hand again.
Ciana lowers her paw, nodding and standing. She inhales deeply, closing her eyes and preparing to be laughed out of the room. "If the factions are choosing a democratic voting system on what ideas get passed up, who will the 'higher-ups' be? And, if they are not chosen already, how will they be chosen for the roles they will play? If the appointees are chosen by the 'higher-ups' at the factions, how will we know that they are not chosen out of bias? If it is a democratic voting system, where will the votes be taken, and to whom will they be addressed to?"
Mokou cracked a small smile as Astara sat down by them... still towering over her, but twas the comfort of people they knew at least. The lass simply shook her head, peering up at the speaker. Aaron. That was their name. "Hmm, well for now? Let's see what we can do..." A familiar sight caught her eye... a hesitant nod tossed back towards Ebreus as he stood off to the side. But for now... She sighed, trying to smile as she listened... Miru's suggestion raised in her mind. Good to identify oneself... Another thought rising, so she raised her hand. Again.
Satan, too, raises his hand while the other goes behind his back, supporting against the small of it.
Aaron phew. Well, no one said it was going to be easy! She points to Vari, then Ebreus, then Mokou, then Satan. "Let's try five at a time." she suggests, before nodding to Ciana. "Yours first, once they've asked."
"My Name is Vari Arak'Than, and I am the head of the K9 police force. So far we have been working as a freelance operation, trying to keep the streets as safe as possible with how few people we are at the moment. As the question was raised earlier taxation and services would most likely become a thing. As such, one should also concern themselves with the establishment of said public services. How close would those operate to the government, if at all?" The kitsune asked.
Ebreus clears his throat as his turn to speak comes around, "If I may I would give my view on where the old government fell short. We'll need an ironclad description of the rights of citizens and limits of government action... other than that I think we'll have to replace the electorial system entirely. I may be mistaken but it appears unsalvageable." he says. He takes a breath before continuing, "Seems that taxation is the hot topic for the moment so I'll try to keep my question brief. As what I have highlighted appears to be issues of a structuring document... a constitution if you will, how will we be developing said document?"
Rising once again, Mokou quietly coughed, trying to smile. Was important. "As Miru suggested, I am Mokou, to those whom do not know. I am from Promethean, and representing myself, and currently work the farms at New Dawn." Introductions and formalities out of the way, the lass simply gestured towards Aaron, "Ciana hit most of my question, Being whom and how this appointed council would be... appointed. But I have two equal questions. Firstly, Governmental power is devised both on currency and the will and effort being put in by the people, and it's reach becomes limited and overreaching based upon how much of the latter is put in. Firstly, is there an idea of how far reaching the new established Government's power should be, and how much it would limit the average citizen? Too little enforcement and strenght and you will end up with our prior nation's First Articals. Too much, and the people will neither support nor accept it. And secondly... Is there a plan, should this structured government to happen, that we might seperate ourselves from the current Cred Currency being released by Zephyr, to have our own form of currency that could thus be more easily handled?"
"In times past, wars were fought in order to maintain the specific ideals of a community, and our communities are quite widespread in their ideals. What sort of ideas might you have for, say, conflict s in ideals, as they will pop up, that is assured. There will always be a dissenting voice, and that voice does represent the views of people, even if it's a smaller group. We've been splinter factions from larger factions for quite some time. How would you even assemble so many under a combined rule? What checks and balances would there be?" comments Satan wryly, his hand lowered to join with its brother behind the small of his back, and he rocks lightly on the soles of his shoes, "After all, the police police the people, but who polices the police?" His glance flicks towards Vari with a quaint little smile.
Aaron nods slowly. "All right. First, my goal is to encourage a democratic voting process to choose representatives for those factions who want to have one. Ultimately, if said factions choose not to use that system, I have no intention of forcing them...but they would still be one voice among many, hopefully limiting the impact of such things. Turning to Vari, she smiles broadly. "Remind me to talk to you later. I hope for us to work as closely with the K9 cops as my arm works with my body. Your help, and the help of your valiant squad, will be /essential/ if we're to have law and order. I hope we can help you, as well."
The demonic fox's question gets her to draw in a deep breath. "You may be right about replacing the electoral system, but I'd like to try to salvage it before eliminating it. Regarding the development of a constitution of sorts, we'll have to play that one by ear for the moment. Fortunately, I'm amply equipped." She flicks a long lapine ear with a wince and a grin, trying to inject at least a little levity. Mokou's questions bring her right down to earth, though. Rough crowd! "These are great questions that I think I absolutely should not be answering on my own." she explains. "A lot of these details are best explored with a group; in no situation is my opinion the only one that matters. I will, however, say that I strongly support a system of checks and balances to prevent the will of the people from being subverted. Our government must exist because of, for the benefit of, and at the pleasure of those it represents." Deeeeeep breath!
Aaron adds, "Regarding the policing of the police, I recognize that this is extremely important, and I hope that one of the answers I just gave will set your mind at ease in that regard: I hope that the K9 Corps, as I call them, will work in tandem with the new government to establish law and order. That it will be supervised by said new government, its action guided by the laws set into place, and will be just and fair. This said, there comes a point somewhere up the line in any governmental system where the people must place their faith in - or replace - the system in question. There is a limit to oversight, because there is a limit to people."
Whew. "More questions?"
Mokou could almost not help chuckling as Aaron spoke. Goodness, talk about... Well... Heh. A small smile was offered back, her hand raising once again then.
Ebreus hums and shakes his head almost imperceptably as the response is given. He takes a deep breath of his own and as another call for questions is made he grins. He raises a hand as he works out the phrasing of what he's going to say in his head.
Miru bites her lower lip as she listens on, milling the words in her head as police and government supervision are mentioned. The okami then quickly raises her hand again.
Satan's hand deftly slides right back up again.
Aaron draws in a deep breath, then points to Mokou again, then Ebreus, then Miru, then Satan. "Five at a time might have been a little much." she reflects aloud. The bunny is juggling just as fast as she can, but she's just one person!
Rising for a moment, her seat hardly warm by now, Mokou tried to offer a softer question to the moderator. Bringing up a new government in the ruins of one after all, no need to push them further. "Very well. I understand that you yourself should not be the sole statement of what should be, as if this is to be set up by the people... it should be set up by the people. To that ends, do you as of yet have an idea how that should be done? We can ask you questions till we are blue in the face, but that only gets your statement and feeling on the matter. How do we all, those invested in trying to put forward something, put forward our hopes for this to shape this budgeoning governance?"
Ebreus nods with Mokous sentiment, it was odd being in agreement with her but it happens from time to time. He directs his attention to Aaron as he says, "First I would like to provide my skill with legal documents to the constitution drafting process. Secondly I would assume you have something for aiding in the formation of a government as a prerequisite for calling a meeting on the topic. Now I would suggest we poll the people of our bubbles for their opinions so that we may begin work on the basics and at least see if we can get the groups represented here to agree... who knows if the K9 force and Machinists come out in support of something styled for the wellbeing of everyone we might be able to use the bandwagon effect. Also you mentioned not wanting to answer on your own, do you mean that you're acting as a representative of a pre-existing subfaction yourself or that we should have the oppinion of the general population before proceding?"
Miru purses her lips for a moment before voicing her concerns, "Well, since we are talking about the police and the extent of the power of the new government...I would like to bring up the issue of the freedom of the press. More importantly, given the various factions, sub-factions, and their interests, I would like to make it clear now if journalists will be allowed to investigate and report without harassment, or will we be restrained, especially when it comes to reporting that might damage an interest groups power?"
"Our fine fennec friend ferries an interesting question and it lies close to my own concerns. You are an individual, the 'spark to light the tinder', but I doubt we need to burn up in a fire. What we need are blocks to set a foundation that we can build on. Do you have such answers, or should we find blocks to collect together to become that foundation? What is the use of a press conference were questions are given to a spark rather than something solid to build upon?" comments Satan eloquently, his cultured tone flowing fluidly as he gives a sweeping motion of his hand towards the group, "What makes any one of us a more suitable building block than another? Those who're already leading? Themajor factions who many of us are beholden to for our very lives do have quite a bit of sway. What would we do in our government if, say, one of them demanded a particular policy be enacted? What voice would they have, and would they be part of our foundation, or shall we strive on our own, whether seen as lacking gratitude or finding true independence. What is the purpose of asking you, an individual? Shouldn't we be talking amongst ourselves and not just one individual?"
Anagram is listening. every word, every point made. He didn't have anything to ask, until now. He raises a tatooed arm to pose his question, almost staring dowm Aaron in preparation for his part in the political game.
Edel scratches idly at her chin. It was giving her some good ideas and thoughts at least, but questions? Less so. It seemed clear to her that they ought to seek more independence from the corporate powers first, for representation's sake. "The corporate interests do have quite a bit of influence for it to be truly a people's solution, if you ask me."
Father that point left him raising his hand in the point leaving a grin at the concept of redemption and the eloquent point of consummate convulsion. He'd patiently shift his gaze back across the horizon before looking back to Aaron with a solemn clarity.
Vari closed her eyes in thought for a moment. Yes, there certainly was the need for a long talk. But politics are politics. And as such not much of her concern, as much as she knew it was important. However, she knew that mentioning how a close bond between the government and the police could raise suspicion, or even distrust. And so it came to no surprise to the vixen, when the reporter asked her question. "Sorry to speak out of line here, but I do feel I have to answer the good reporters question. It is my own concern that working too closely with the government may prove less than ideal. Of course mutual trust IS something we should achieve, no questions asked. But I feel that this could lead to a misuse of power. So I feel that I should let people here know that if we, as in the K9 police force, are to be established as government officials, we will always adhere to the human right standards. That means we will not persue reporters doing their job."
Aaron mmms. All right, let's see if she can handle four at once. "I'm here only representing myself." she explains to Ebreus. "For now. But I'd be happy to have your help in drafting up documents. You see, this is how we grow: our talents and skills complement each other. As it is in a team of agents, so it is in a government. ... ... ...ideally, anyway. I know not every agent group I took part in was like that /but I digress/. Regarding polling, that's a procedural question, and that's something I would be working on with others. But yes, I hope that once others see people banding together, they'll follow suit. As the song says, nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd." Miru receives a firm nod, and she notes, "The press must be free to report the truth to any extent that does not infringe on the rights of others or represent a real and present danger. For example, if we were to be attacked, reporters probably would not be allowed in the strategy briefing room. Nor would you be allowed to force your way into private residences. Freedom of the press is one thing the old system did right.
If she doesn't seem to answer Mokou's question, it's because answering Ebreus's question worked for both, as best as she can tell. As for Satan, she gives a little smirk. "Yes, you should. You should be talking amongst yourselves and organizing and working to build a foundation. But WERE you, before I said something?" Without waiting for an answer, she continues, "I'm giving my opinions, my vision. I realize mine isn't the only one...but if others were doing what I'm doing right now, I wouldn't need to do it. I'm a fighter, sir. I've organized projects in the past, but I'm no politician. Far from it. My chief qualification on this podium is that /no one else stepped forward/. Including you." This said, she looks out among the crowd for more.
"Quite a claim. As if your actions were a necessity, but, indeed, groups HAVE been talking, people HAVE been meeting. It's great that you have a vision, but talking group to group seeems more effecatious than this. Afre your efforts well," Satan says with a wave towards the on-stage rabbit, "and enjoy your spotlight. I'm off to do real work, then." His stride is both casual with a long gait and slow stride, carrying him from the area.
Aaron mmmns. "A government forged in secret behind closed doors is no proper government. But yes, enjoy your evening." She tosses Satan a wave before murmuring, "And don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out."
Miru nodded her head at Aaron. Yes, the okami will not try breaking into various group HQs if they refuse to answer her questions, definitely. The okami then looks around, her hands continuing to put observations to paper, focusing on those talkative who have yet to divulge their interests, and on the leaving well-dressed figure.
Astara had been content to just listen, and be a fly on the wall. ...If that fly were the biggest person in the room. Simply taking in what everyone is saying, trying to sieve out what people's opinions and stances might be going forward, ESPECIALLY for those who she was unfamiliar with. She bristled a little as Satan was... well, being Satan. The foxtaur then raises her hand.
As Ebreus lowers his arm after his last batch of statements followed by a question he looks over the Satan as he makes several very good points. He smiles as he formulates a response, "If I may: There are several things that could be done should one of the big three demand things of our new government dependant upon our size when it occurs. Various forms of resistance, mostly non-violent, would work quite well assuming the three of them don't band together against us... in which case resistance gets more interesting." He shtugs as Satan makes his final statements and walks off. Then turning his attention back to Aaron and raises his hand.
Mokou let a round run her by... before gently nodding. Posturing was nice, but a bit of information may be handy... So once again, her hand raised.
Aaron nods her head. Upon the disruptive man's departure, she points to Anagram, then Astara, then Ebreus and Mokou. "You, you, you, and then you." The questions are visibly beginning to wear on her, but she's not done yet. Fighter, check. Not a politician, also check.
Anagram lowers his arm and begins to speak in an even, commanding tone despite holding his hand up for a while. "Say this government plan comes to fruition... What do you propose we do with the other factions out there?" He then waves his hand out in emphasis. "The city-states, the settlements, the survivors... all of those in the wasteland that used to be the United States of America. I bet my head there are those who not only wish for their sovereignty, but for their own interests to be above those created here."
Astara had her arms crossed across the top of her bosom as she spoke. (Little else was practical, not below, certainly!) "That actually is a similar concern I had, in fact." she remarks, extending a hand in Anagram's direction to indicate him. "I am curious how the process might be to expand the political boundaries; and how we can make sure that, as it grows bigger, we can keep a sufficient amount of power at a more *local* level."
Rising once again, Mokou coughed lightly. Bother. These questions always were the easiest to ask, but one of the more difficult to answer. But, screening is something important. "I have a simple question, for once. What do you feel should be done with the ferals?"
Ebreus nods, as his turn to speak comes up and he says, "The Vampire had a point about a this style meeting only getting us so far." he pauses a moment before continuing, "Without further planning or just counting on Agents to somehow make it happen on their own we're not likely to get very far. So why don't we begin workshops and rudimentary congresses to begin substantial work?"
The kitsune in the white gown had to think for a while. This wasn't a politician standing there, answering the questions. But somehow Vari had the feeling, that this wasn't the true intent of the lapine anyways. No, the kitsune thought that the real intent was to bring the people to think, to formulate ideas in their heads. And to create a gathering, to gauge out just how viable the idea was. So Vari raised her own hand again, in hopes to help this effort.
Aaron hmmms. "Well, first, realize that it's my hope that our government would recognize the sovereignty of any groups who wanted to remain separate." she notes aloud. "It's also my hope that we would establish alliances with other groups and grow in power ourselves, such that we would not only be able to repel any group that sought to destroy us, but would have help in doing so. Mind you, that's a job for diplomats. Astara's question has a somewhat simpler answer, with some of it having been answered directly beforehand: "It would be my goal to keep the seat of government here, but it's not necessary if we expand enough; I'm not just thinking locally in the long-term. That's where we start, but there's more than that in the future."
Mokou's question receives a quick nod from the bunny. "I was wondering if someone would ask that." she notes aloud. "Reform anyone who's willing. Tolerate anyone who's willing to live symbiotically with the local population; not all ferals are super-violent." Taking a moment to rub her temples, she answers, "...any ferals that insist on violating innocents...that's a much, MUCH more difficult question, and not one to which I have an immediate answer; I have some ideas, but none of them are particularly satisfying to me. This is part of why I'm trying to rally support and participation: in no way can I do this alone." Ebreus's question gets a little smile from the bunny. "Yes, excellent." she answers. "That's the entire point of this meeting. You're not looking at the entire chess game here, people; this is the opening move. Going forward is where we form groups, get together, cooperate, complement each others' abilities. This is a call to organize. And as said before, the only reason I'm doing it is that no one else is. Even if the rude gentleman is right and private groups are talking behind closed doors, that doesn't do the everyman any good at all." That said, shoulders sagging slightly, she looks out among the crowd for more. Vari gets a small nod, though she had her hand up a bit early. That's one.
Mokou... nodded. As close to an answer as she could expect in that area. So the fennec simply shook her head, gesturing vacantly to the speaker. Mouth opening... before closing swiftly again. A lifting of her hand. To do this right for now."
Aaron breathes a sigh of relief, gesturing to Vari, then Mokou. "You, then you." The flood of questions is getting smaller! She's going to survive this after all!
Father held a warm smile to the point and waited to speak up, though as he was a lot more focused on the change of possible people involved he'd speak on his point. Despite the change of focus he'd note Astara's message of possibility and the tattooed man's contest. "I'm just interested in clarifying an opinion. The way that you have constructed this as a moderator in an open forum for discussion. The moderator isn't expected to provide all of the answers but it is a method of building ideas to put together and execute as a presentation to the body. The more we confer, the better we can resolve the things we are interested in. The goal of getting everyone together to act on it is half of the battle. As for the others seeking sovereignty, I have a feeling that negotiation will occur. Though if the dominion comes into play it will be an obvious conflict when there is a group organized enough to contest it. Though, that would be another reason to be... Ready, no? I agree with the other gentleman's point as well. I think that the main point would be to have a scribe to address the points that we are interested in, discuss how we could take actions on it and manage it, then propose the methods back to the general body. The key thing here as the lady stated is to do this in an orderly fashion and figure out how we want to continue and grow. You can't be represented if you don't present yourself to the group but then when you are able to present, you should. If we find something that may be a better path could be revised to account for new ideas. That's the goal of all of this. While we have good points and questions, we need to flesh out who we want and agree to build on that and why. After that, we revise...as stated. Yet to begin is the true battle, an initiation of trust and established systems." He'd look back down across the group. "The question is, out of those here, who would want to address some of the issues and from there we could reconvene?"
The lass slowly rose, a small sigh falling from her lips. And they have lived long enough, that they can find that sort of comfort in the inaction they take."
The fennec looked back to Aaron, a touch of a sad smile given. What burns first?"
Anagram finds that the meeting is satisfactory to him, and turns to leave. Aaron isn't the one to talk to to push his agenda, so he'll have to wait and make more plans.
The vulpine adjusted her glasses, as she thought of her own response, seeing as everything was basically said, but with each word, her own desire began flaming. "It's not a simple task, I realize, but what else can we do if we all want this to succeeed."
Aaron nods her agreement to Father. They're good questions; are you willing to help me answer them?"
Mokou receives a gentle smile from the bunny, who points to the chairs on stage. "These aren't just here for show." she explains. "So since the questions seem to be winding down for now, I have an invitation to extend. If any of you are willing to commit to action - maybe not this very moment, because good lord my head hurts, but soon - I want you to join me on this stage. Take a seat. Let your presence here stand (sit) as testament to your commitment to push forward." Pausing for just a moment, she continues, "Without your help, my vision is dead in the water...but together, I'm convinced we can do this."
Ebreus nods, "I think at very least we all have something to start working on so that we'll at least have the aspects of government and from there be able to flesh out how they fit together and what needs to be revised." he says. He smiles and continues, "We each at least have something to work on in the time between our next meeting."
Father had absolutely no clue in which capacity he would work, but he'd cast a gave back to the tattooed beast's exit path before resting himself somberly on a seat. "I'm interested in trying to shape a better future. Not sure how it's gonna happen yet, but I'm willing to try."
Edel rubs at one of her ears, nodding slowly. It had been an enlightening thing to sit in and listen on, certainly. She shuffles forward, tail swaying behind her as she takes a seat.
Vari stepped forward. For a future of our own sovereignity."
Astara smiles at that invitation... she stands up, making her way carefully over to the stage, and eventually up onto it.
Miru continued on taking her notes, focusing intently on all those who never declared who they represent or their interests...and as it happens those people also tended to look the most...'trustworthy'.
