Flaws are a series of optional modifiers and effects only available during character generation. Currently, the only exception to this rule is Feral Mode which can be added and removed with the purchasable Bad Nanites and Becoming a man items, respectively. During character generation, flaws have no cost and multiple flaws may be taken.

Effects

Flaws, unlike merits, aren't necessarily beneficial. Flaws may provide various benefits but often impose a penalty in exchange. The effects of these penalties vary, including the constant consumption of Builder Nanites (Nanite Reinforced, Adaptive Immunities, Adapted Metabolism and Nanite Fueled) or less control during combat (Battle Chaos).

Why take a flaw?

The reasons for taking flaws vary; flaws may be chosen to mechanically represent in-character issues and flaws, make combat more challenging or for the beneficial effects that certain flaws offer. The Feral Mode flaw, for example, has significant in-character and mechanical implications and also includes the ability to use exclusive items that those without the flaw cannot. Flaws, with exception to Feral Mode, cannot be removed without moderator assistance.
