Lunasta boop
Neant says, "Heya"
Neant says, "Welcome!"
Jade waves! Tries to think of question things. ^^;
Neant waves to all!
Dracolon waves back
Arona says, "So, do we post our questions in OOC ?"
Neant says, "Yup, that seems fine to me."
Treharne says, "S'pose so. I mean it would get really weird for this to be IC."
Miorna says, "Also quite against the rules. Staff characters don't exist."
Arona says, "I meant in OOC as opposed to in a channel"
Neant says, "Yeah."
Treharne says, "Ah. Yeah."
Neant says, "Yeah, that was about the purpose of this. Getting a bit more personal time with staff members."
Arona says, "So, question about writing. Are lstats still allowed ? And how much can we do with them if they are."
Miorna says, "You can still do Lstats, however, Lstats should be either randomized fun things, or exceptionally simple in how they work. An example of a randomized Lstat would be the Tattoo that the Lizard Girl gives you. An example of an exceptionally simple thing is the fact that Vixen Nurse can take off and respawn hir clothing."
Arona says, "Would the size of antlers for a deer-based form be okay ?"
Lunasta says, "If memory serves me correct, Nuku has a preference for forms to be 'static', hence why there shouldn't be complex lstats."
Miorna says, "Not particularly. They shouldn't be used to change physical aspects of a form, which is where we were running into the most diffaculty."
Neant says, "So, antler size on lstats sounds pretty much okay to me."
Jade says, "I do assume this is true, but do some of the mutant forms choose their sex before engaging the player? Becoming male, female, herm, or neuter?"
Miorna says, "The static nature of randomized aspects is why Nuku is ok with that. Once it is randomized, it is done, and it doesn't change."
Miorna says, "Some of the forms do come in more than just always female, always male etc. This is perfectly alright, but does require more work on our parts."
Jade would NEVER give the staff more work! *halo*
Miorna says, "The base form should be X sexually all the time though."
Treharne says, "(See: the 'list forms' distribution.)"
Miorna says, "Example, I could make Female Husky spawn as male! However the form itself would still have the same sexual characteristics."
Neant says, "In the case of the Nanite Mage and Puddlejumper (Those forms can appear either male and female)."
Neant says, "Puddlejumper being a Neuter in the base form."
Treharne says, "...isn't nanite mage largely just a cloaked figure with few if any distinguishing features?"
Jade hmmmle. "I think I understand. Thank you."
Neant says, "Basically, if you want male and female versions to spawn of the same form, we need to create a male and female itteration of the base form."
Arona says, "Is it possible to get your e-mail address changed if your old e-mail service provider closed ?"
Neant says, "Yes, you need to make a +request about that."
Neant says, "An Admin should be able to change it."
Arona says, "Under Chargen ?"
Neant says, "Yup, that should be a good place for that."
Miorna pokes Neant to the Wizard Chat.
Dracolon says, "I was wondering if there was any ongrid, offgrid, eliteshop, ect. form that actaully has the 'Hot Under the Collar' power?"
Neant says, "I think, if I remember correctly, that it is a Private Form that has that power."
Treharne says, "Seems like a private power to me, yeah."
Lunasta checks.
Arona says, "I think I remember some time ago work being done on replacing the current stat-specific upgrade system with one that would be based on themed upgrades, like giving furry hide a set of upgrades based on sea mammal fur, desert mammal fur, polar mammal fur, etc. What happened to that ?"
Lunasta says, "yes, I see a form. it is private offgrid. Also absolutely ancient."
Miorna says, "That is Aux's project. None of the rest of us have the time table or anything like that."
Dracolon says, "Ah so it falls into the same boat as the Wolger. Thanks for the info!"
Arona says, "Are there private forms that have been abandonned by their creator and made public ?"
Neant says, "We are going through them regularly, and depending on quality and theme, we can release them at times."
Neant says, "Do take note, the owner of those forms have to have been absent for a long time, and some of the older ones aren't quite up to scratch in the quality department, or are of a type that is already in the game in a very similar way."
Dracolon says, "Would it be possible to add an older private power to a new form that had a better place in the current state of the game?"
Neant says, "Well, the point is, if a similar form already exists, that would not be a done thing. Also, it would undermine the uniqueness of the private form."
Neant says, "Which would be troublesome if the owner is still around."
Dracolon says, "I see"
Treharne says, "...having said that, there have been instances of effectively the same power under different names and descriptions."
Otto says, "Hellow!"
Jade waves!
Neant says, "Hello Otto!"
Catalyst pokes her head in just for random curiosity
Otto says, "So much wizardry in one room. This is truly magical."
Jade waves unto! :)
Minerva says, "I just came here because it's usually empty @_@"
Neant says, "Which is also why we choose this place, it's accessible and usually empty."
Jade huffs! Continues. "Will there be an update to the Writing Bounties page eventually? It still has the same selections from some time ago. Is it waiting on those present to be filled before moving on?"
Otto says, "SO I have a question to axe. Can someone outside the bubble do anything while using their Regulation Nanomagic, other than exist as the carrying vessel for the mini-server?"
Otto says, "Because I get mixed responses. Some folks say "Oh you can use your mutant powers and fight as regular. Others say "You can barely think, thinking about anything but the server being up will lower it." and others are all "No, in fact I'm not sure you can even move.""
Treharne says, "Ahhh, the old question of 'concentration'."
Lunasta says, "We were just talking about this the other day in fact"
Neant says, "The writing bounties page is Song's territory. They are working on quite a few things now, so we'll need to see when they get around the it."
Otto says, "And this one fellow said he uses it all willy nilly and even baps his other nanomagics around freely while maintaining the server WHICH VIOLATES WHAT"S WRITTEN ABOUT IT but even though I corrected him he said a judge told him he can."
Miorna says, "Ok, the power says pretty much how this one works. Or at least tries to."
Otto says, "I SUSPECT SHENANIGAINS"
Treharne says, "It is defined rather vaguely, yeah."
Miorna says, "Alright, I wrote that one, so I'll try to explain."
Jade nods! Quiets now for Otto's Shins. :)
Otto baps himself, apologizes. "Feeling bombastic today. So energetic!"
Neant cuts off Otto's energy drink supply.
Miorna says, "The objective here is that anything that would render you incapable of any kind of focus also disables the nanomagic. It also makes it apply as 'in active use' which doesn't allow other nanomagics. So, yes, you can think just fine, use mutant powers, etc. But you could not use other nanomagics, and get knocked out/black out/fall asleep/etc, and it is going to stop working."
Otto says, "Ah so then door number 1."
Otto says, "Gotcha!"
Treharne says, "So... for anyone who's familiar with Mutants and Masterminds, kind of like Sustained powers?"
Treharne says, "Miorna, are you familiar with M&M and would that be an apt comparison if so? @_@"
Miorna says, "Not at all :-P"
Treharne says, "Nerts."
Otto says, "I love M&Ms"
Otto says, "Best candy."
Miorna says, "I'll note, seeing how pain is still a thing, it would be totally fair for a judge to make someone roll willpower when hit REALLY hard as well."
Otto says, "Okay. Another question!"
Treharne says, "TL;DR version -- Doesn't consume your actions to maintain, but a hard enough hit can disrupt your focus and it can't be maintained while unconscious. So given that bit you just explained yeah it sounds like an apt comparison for anyone who -does- know Mutants & Masterminds."
Otto says, "So I was in this scene where this *stifles obscene amount of profanity*-wad was linking their mutant powers and insisting they should grant him higher rolls for tasks like picking a lock and lifting heavy things. What's up with that?"
Otto says, "Well, Proving them."
Otto says, "Not linking."
Miorna says, "If a power provides this function, it will be listed in its statuses AND will already do this passively."
Miorna says, "If we missed one that you feel should do this, let us know!"
Treharne says, "Examples of ones that do it as is: Long Ears, On Wings, Efficient Interface."
Otto grumbles mumbles and nods. "He was insisting that he should get a bonus on his security roll because he has small claws and he can "use those to pick the lock"
Otto says, "Like, how..."
Treharne says, "...I could see that letting him try without a conventional lockpick but..."
Treharne says, "I dunno about a bonus."
Miorna giggles.
Otto headshakes. "So that's a confirmed No then. Just as I thought."
Miorna says, "I'd say 'Ok, roll with -5 for improvized tools' but that is me."
Treharne says, "Still, improvised's better than none..."
Jade says, "Agreed. With none: 'You stare at the lock, demanding and willing the laws of the universe bend to open the lock. The Universe laughs at you.'"
Otto says, "Huh, while on topic, if I want my nifty swifty computer-pokey tech-loving AN to have the upper paw in molesting the ever loving shit out of security systems, computer systems and alarm systems, Earth nanomagic for the free tools would be a good companion for Technical, yes?"
Miorna says, "The Earth tree, yes. Earth itself doesn't give you tools."
Otto says, "There was a subroutine."
Otto says, "Errh..."
Dracolon says, "I still need to get into Nanomagics"
Miorna says, "Keep in mind, these are simple tools. You aren't going to make a multi-meter!"
Otto says, "Item COnjuration?"
Otto says, "Well ofcourse!"
Miorna says, "Yes, that one in particular."
Otto says, "i was thinking like, a screwdriver."
Otto says, "Or a wrench."
Otto says, "Or a hammer!"
Miorna says, "A simple single piece screwdriver would work."
Otto says, "Cool beans."
Miorna says, "Which is another thing, single piece, made from a single 'non-glass' material."
Otto says, "Another question to keep you lovely magical folks on your toes. How do you handle the magic bag trope? Folks just pulling out things they need out of their pocket of infinite depth and potential?"
Treharne says, "...I'm curious about that as well given the discrepancy between equip/loadout and your inventory."
Miorna says, "If they can +gear/prove it, then all is well. Unfortunately we don't really have a method of limitation beyond that. For an extended scene, you could ask each player to create an inventory list for you."
Otto says, "I mean I'd look damn silly right now. I carry... let's see...5 different weapons that are moderately large. Armor, A scattershot and a buncha different flasks (considering the amplifier can be flask-sized?)"
Treharne says, "'Looking damn silly' is possible ven within loadout restrictions. XD"
Otto says, "Reminds me of that pic of the russian soldier with the thousand guns on his back."
Otto says, "IVAN"
Cura powerflops in onto Dracolon!
Miorna says, "Ehh, that is one of the changes I wanted to make to the system, but Aux's system was picked to try instead."
Samhall says, "inventory management is never going to make sense for an RPG."
Otto says, "True, true."
Dracolon looks at his gear, "Yep most of my stuff is clothing and a single pistol. xD" Gets crushed by Cura
Otto says, "So here's another good one for ya!"
Samhall says, "it's a playability versus realism tradeoff. Realism would be tedious."
Treharne says, "(It's probably fair to assume that gear substitutions take at least a handful of seconds.)"
Otto says, "I seem to be carrying in my inventory a warehouse worth of stuff."
Treharne says, "(If not longer, depending.)"
Miorna says, "You should imagine Miranai."
Treharne says, "(I mean on RuP a class swap takes like a minute, so...)"
Otto says, "Is that not a magic bag? Are folks allowed to yank stuff out of it?"
Treharne says, "(You can do gear swaps in combat but it does take actions to do so.)"
Miorna says, "I used to carry literal hundreds of children around on hir."
Otto says, "Because I can yank a small building right out right now. :D"
Treharne says, "...yeah I don't know why a small building is a craftable. XD"
Otto says, "And not just one either!"
Cura says, "It was for a Research project"
Treharne says, "A theoretically -infinite- pile of small buildings! :D"
Otto says, "I have a damn city in my pocket!"
Jade says, "Ottoville!"
Miorna says, "Holdon, I'll get to that."
Cura says, "Representing you put the material effort into funding a restoration of a building."
Otto says, "M'yes. Quite."
Miorna says, "And what Cura said, it isn't meant to be an ACTUAL building on its own."
Treharne says, "Extradimensional spaces: awkward for generators because everyone's using them to store their junk. (No, not that kind of junk.)"
Samhall says, "heck, I carry around a huge pile of stuff and I don't even wear clothes."
Cura says, "Not that you actually are carrying a building around"
Otto says, "Oh Sam..."
Arona says, "Some ARE, that's what underwear accesses for the largest of us !"
Samhall says, "only the Power Gator."
Otto gigglefits.
Samhall ate the rest.
Otto says, "OKAY! Another question: Can one Transform themselves, someone else while maintaining a Regulation server?"
Jade says, "Dio!"
Catalyst says, "Hello"
Neant says, "Welcome."
Dio says, "Dio is always with you."
Otto says, "Heyo!"
Miorna says, "Via what methods Otto?"
Otto says, "Nanite Adept/Coyote powers."
Jade adores, as always. <3 The Dio is strong with this one.
Miorna says, "One moment."
Miorna says, "Test"
Miorna says, "Ok, now, that is an interesting question, and one that there isn't a solid answer for. It has been kicked around as for 'would this break your focus?' Personally? I'd allow it, just fine. People get TF'd mid combat, mid power use, all the time, and it doesn't cause a knock down effect or anything of that nature. Heck Tanuki's get an energy boost for it."
Otto says, "FINALLY a reasonable answer! Thank you!"
Miorna says, "Welcome. But, this is not a firm answer."
Arona says, "Maybe that would make an interesting flaw. "Shocking changes""
Otto says, "Okay! Another queston because I am just FULL of them today!"
Otto says, "Would a feral be able to leave the bubble?"
Miorna says, "Fire away, though puppy needs walked soon."
Firecracker says, "Doesn't the Coyote power Metamorphosis give all sorts of status effects due to the change it forces? That's not a regular infection though"
Miorna says, "Absolutely."
Jade need slip away-- sleep commands!
Firecracker says, "Oh wait... this is the Q&A thing I popped out into"
Cura says, "It's more a person to person case. Someone who is used to being in a static form, or is afraid of TF's may find a sudden mid activity change to be VERY distruptive, while someone like a nanite adept may find it at the most a minor inconvinence."
Miorna says, "They wouldn't be comfortable about this. They would want to go back. Even more so if pregnant!!"
Miorna says, "But as for 'can'? Yes, a feral can walk right out of the bubble just fine."
Starius says, "Yeah, sorry Firecracker."
Otto hmms...
Otto says, "ooookay!"
Miorna says, "In fact, a rampaging feral would be the most dangerous thing to a surviving human camp outside of any bubble..."
Cura says, "But Ferals outside the bubble are subject to the same effects as a player outside of the bubble I assume."
Otto says, "Erh... hmm... ahm... I need to make weird noises and scratch my head for a while so I can think of a good one. (also bothering Song about the form I am writing so BRB and thank you very much for the answers <3)"
Miorna says, "A thing with sharp claws, and bullets only slow them down!?"
Samhall says, "for what it's worth, looking past the edge of the bubble at the end of the highway gives a 'out there is death, don't go there' feeling."
Miorna says, "I'm getting the feeling that people have been overestimating the effects of out of bubble again."
Miorna says, "I'll note, as a judge, if you make your own room you can change it to be out of bubble."
Miorna says, "Just set the env effect to nanite -50."
Miorna says, "You'll have to unset this if you have someone use regulation mind."
Cura says, "Outside of bubble=Lessened power stength, lessened regen, need to eat/drink regularly for survival, ect. Correct?"
Miorna says, "Lessened, yes, though that lessened regen is the lightest effect."
Firecracker says, "If I got it right, out of bubble makes mutants very uncomfortable and subjects you to more realistic things, like physics"
Samhall says, "seems like it'd mean death for ferals, since they're supposed to be starving all the time."
Miorna says, "Here is an example. I'm out of bubble, and I break a bone!"
Catalyst never heard anything about ferals constantly starving. <.<
Miorna says, "OH no! Need to fix this. Ok, to fix it I need a lot of calcium and other bone like materials... oh look, here are all these bone fragments just sitting here, they are even inside the body I'm fixing!"
Miorna says, "Ok, I have the materials, time to fix this! ETA... (variable)."
Cura says, "[To: Catalyst] Some of the more Off the deep end ferals Neglect eating and such in favor of hunting for sex. Relying on the nanites of the bubble to keep them functioning."
Miorna says, "Though some ferals do have food supplies (what, you think that edible salvage you get at the end of a fight just came from the ground or something? Naw, you stole a sandwich)."
Cura says, "Not all do, those that still have enough survival insticts could survive and perhaps even trive outside of the bubble."
Cura says, "Also there is a sliding scale of feral behavior. You know all of the Mall Rats? Allmost every single one, Rod included are Feral."
Miorna says, "Also, more sane ferals would prioratize food over other things. But, it isn't like a feral can just walk to Walmart, give them some little green pieces of paper, and get a whole, cooked, chicken."
Dracolon playfully chases Cura's tail...
Treharne says, "(Which explains the old Rod-Trained thing back in the days before classes.)"
Miorna says, "Ferals can still do trade though! Walk into Zephyr, 'I have a shiny, and I'm hungry.'"
Cura wiggle waggles that tail for Dracolon.
Miorna says, "Yes, ferals are allowed in Z tower, if they behave."
Catalyst says, "So it's more how cra-cra they've gone"
Treharne says, "They're still potential customers!"
Cura says, "Feral just means they follow more or less the preset instincts of their infection."
Miorna says, "What Cura said, and there are degrees of feral."
Cura says, "For Mall rats said insticts would dictate, "Hang out at malls and be Cool dude.""
Samhall says, "I wish there were more terms than 'feral'. It's overloaded at least three different ways."
Catalyst says, "Like, totally narly."
Miorna says, "Some more so than others. Heck, I have mostly feral characters, 2 are entirely off the deep end, hardly even speak. The others are more in control, though do tend to do very feral things from time to time."
Arona says, "So the least feral degree of ferals are the one we play with the flaw ?"
Cura says, "For the most part."
Treharne says, "...I mean feral's less overloaded as a word than 'survival'. XD"
Miorna says, "Up to the player! I'll note, totally feral would be unplayable."
Samhall is not very feral feral.
Miorna says, "Mindless beast that runs around and only does X, where X is what the victory message says it does."
Miorna says, "Not a very interesting character :-("
Otto says, "OH GOD"
Otto says, "Feral Dark Wolves!"
Otto hides!
Cura huggles Dracolon and pet pets him.
Miorna says, "So, bottom of the bucket ferals make for bad characters, but anything above bottom to 'highly functioning' is what a player plays, yes."
Arona says, "So even regular players have a hint of feral-ness then, since we get victory messages."
Treharne says, "That's the 'instincts', yes."
Miorna says, "A hint of it? Yes. Most everything that is mutated does."
Samhall says, "bottom-of-the-bucket types seem to be the majority."
Dracolon purrs and nuzzles into Cura's pet.
Miorna says, "Sounds like I need to get Angelily out to play."
Otto gets shat on sometimes for being a Mutant Trick AN. What's up with that? =/
Miorna says, "Feral Coyote (both in form and dedication)."
Treharne says, "(Even ANs get it because opting out of or being unable to use mutant powers doesn't do anything to the form's instincts.)"
Treharne says, "...buh?"
Treharne says, "Otto, details?"
Otto says, "I get snide remarks."
Treharne says, "(Is it something I did? @_@ or are we talking IC?)"
Miorna says, "Most of hir time is spent sitting on hir balls, telling interesting stories or listening to them. Sometimes shi TFs people who do, what shi thinks, are bad things. Shi also likes to fish!"
Otto says, "Erm, no it's just that whoever I speak to says "DOHOHO MUTANT TRICK BREAKS CANON!""
Neant says, "And yes, a completely feral Dark Wolf, that is off the deep end, would be quite troublesome. Tentacles everywhere, trying to make cum baloons of everything they see."
Dio says, "Well, it obviously doesn't break canon if it's a perk. Take a dump on them instead."
Miorna says, "Ok..."
Treharne says, "...I have no idea why it would break canon."
Otto says, "Me neither."
Otto says, "Heck, I even use Efficient interface."
Treharne says, "In most cases ANs are voluntary anyway so it shouldn't be that weird."
Samhall says, "er, feral Dark Wolves are in the shadow pits. There are plenty of 'em running around."
Dio says, "I mean you ARE a filthy mutant power dabbing traitor, but it's still canon."
Otto says, "It's not like I have some deep end MP like... friggin... shadow breath or frenzy ot something."
Treharne says, "And in the case/assumption where they're not, there's always the trope of a largely Badass Normal person with this one little side supernatural power they have."
Otto says, "I have a well organized interface."
Otto says, "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
Treharne says, "...wait is it an HUD?"
Miorna says, "[To: Otto] It doesn't break cannon, because AN is all about man over nanites. An AN with Mutant Trick could easily play it off as 'Look! I've even mastered control over this specific use of nanites!' much how an AN NA (heh) could easily play it off as 'Humph! I don't need nanites! And they obey me. My form is my own, and I decided it. That makes me better than other ANs!'"
Samhall says, "AN's sort of an affectation. Still affected by nanites, just not taking full advantage of them."
Treharne says, "...wait what's the NA part."
Otto says, "Nanite Adept"
Treharne says, "--derp."
Miorna says, "More refusing to take full advantage of them, and choosing instead to focus entirely on using tools like civilized humans!"
Catalyst has never done All Natural, mutant powers are too fun
Otto wouldn't give up his guns for the world.
Miorna says, "'Claws!? How barbaric. I have a knife.'"
Treharne likes All Natural because she's only really any good with the gear system. ^^;
Otto says, "I read yer guide Treharne"
Otto says, "Good stuff."
Otto says, "Much thanks!"
Treharne says, "^_^"
Minerva says, "this is regarding the people are feral because victory messages thing from a while ago, but what about self control, and to a lesser extent, victory messeges like that of the celestial attendent?"
Miorna says, "And you can play it up anywhere from snubbing mutants and what they represent, all the way to something like 'Oh, that's nice, you have cute claws, but, they aren't for me. I like my knives.'"
Otto says, "Got... oh 1-45 in 3h"
Treharne says, "Hoped it'd be helpful to someone."
Treharne says, "dayum."
Starius says, "Guide?"
Miorna says, "Might have to give it a read sometime."
Treharne wrote a guide. Or a jumble of mini-guides, I guess.
Treharne says, "http://wiki.flexiblesurvival.com/w/Treharne%27s_Assorted_Guides"
Otto says, "Wanna know what's funny though?"
Treharne says, "It's mostly just my musings on a handful of topics."
Treharne says, "Hm?"
Starius shrugs.
Miorna says, "Now, Self Control is a representation of maintaining your cool and your composure even when nanites are telling you to do a thing."
Starius says, "Could be an interesting and helpful read."
Miorna says, "Self Controlled Ferals are odd, but perfectly acceptable."
Arona says, "Mind over instincts ?"
Otto says, "I made Otto as a joke character."
Catalyst says, "Oooh, info"
Treharne says, "...wut? XD"
Otto says, "I mean it."
Otto says, "Otto the Otter."
Otto says, "Was a joke."
Miorna says, "A female husky that... doesn't fuck everything in sight!? What!? And she's feral!?"
Catalyst says, "That's"
Catalyst says, "Otter nonsense"
Minerva says, "I did only catch the tail end of it, but I thought the implication was that even nonferals are semi feral, and victory messages are a part of that"
Treharne says, "(But he's an ottsel! He's totally the high-tech precursor.)"
Otto says, "Female huskies are the best."
Treharne says, "Nonferals are still subject to the instincts of their form."
Otto says, "OH"
Otto raises his hand!
Dio says, "There should be a perk called Struggling Control where it makes a willpower roll to determine if you victory message or not."
Miorna says, "Well, yes, doesn't mean she doesn't really love fucking, doesn't mean she doesn't fuck and suck with the best of them. She just keeps her cool and collects herself when fucking isn't approprate at the time."
Treharne says, "Make a request for that, Dio?"
Samhall says, "[To: Dio] sounds like a mako pool option."
Dio says, "5000 mako pool."
Otto says, "Hnnnnng!"
Miorna says, "Anyway, puppy walking time."
Otto says, "Why doesn't thins thing work?!"
Samhall says, "I didn't know that was a thing."
Miorna says, "Umm... where!?"
Treharne says, "...is it turned on? (snrk)"
Otto says, "It doesn't! I still get victory messages!"
Miorna says, "What?"
Otto says, "It's on!"
Otto says, "It was on!"
Arona says, "Do you have any perk that increase the victory message chances ?"
Otto says, "Nope!"
Otto says, "BRB"
Otto says, "Lied down with tablet. Tiring day, tell ya hwat, went to chop logs for 7 hours."
Catalyst says, "But I bet you're buff now"
Treharne says, "Are you a lumberjack, and are you okay? D:"
Miorna says, "Back later."
Otto says, "I am a lumberjack and I'm okay... but I forget the lyrics to the shantee :("
Dio says, "Did you know that another ProtoMUCK and FOURTH using MUCK is trying to switch to another codebase because they can't get anyone to program for their dead language anymore? I thought that was interesting."
Treharne says, "(I sleep all night and I work all day. ^_^)"
Treharne says, "Hm?"
Otto says, "Good shantee :D"
Treharne says, "It is kind of an obscure coding language, yeah."
Treharne says, "My dad got a laugh out of it because it's basically an old Fortran calculator language."
Treharne says, "(He's been a coder for 40+ years.)"
Arona says, "Well, the MU* systems are from 40 years ago, so it makes sense."
Otto says, "So I have a question about Monsieur Song. He is the wizard of Knots? :p"
Lunasta says, "How big is that MU*, Dio?"
Samhall says, "forth is a lot neater than fortran, in both possible meanings."
Samhall says, "but most folks don't work with stack-based languages."
Dio says, "I dunno, but it's called Pokemon Fusion. One of their devs came into an IRC I was in and said they were looking to switch off."
Samhall says, "if someone was starting a MU* codebase from scratch, they could try lua for scriptability, since that's its purpose."
Lunasta says, "because there's a stupid amount of stuff in FS that'd have to be converted for us to do something like that, a prohibitive amount. There's stuff we (read: not me, I'm not MUF-literate!) unearth in the code whenever someone does a code dive."
Arona says, "Like that time you fiddled with the rewards from the puzzler, or checked how XP gains work while powerleveling ?"
Samhall says, "for a project of this complexity, it's a lot faster to take an existing package and bang on it until it does what one wants than start from scratch, even if that makes later maintenance tricky."
Treharne says, "(Belatedly, yes, Song is the Wizard of Knots. :P)"
Samhall waves.
Treharne awaits questions, if anyone still has some?
Aaron decides to show up because why not.
Aaron says, "Will a log be posted?"
Aaron says, "Also, can confirm that Pokemon Fusion is trying to switch codebases."
Neant says, "There is just an ooc log."
Aaron says, "Anyway, I have several questions."
Neant says, "Of course, that's what we are here for,"
Aaron nods, will the log of the event be posted, even if it's OOC chat? Or is what happens here lost to the mists of time?
Neant says, "I can save the log, of course."
Aaron says, "Okay. Now, questions."
Aaron says, "Will the Puzzler ever be fixed so that he isn't quite so bad? Nuku insists that he's fixed, but he's really, really not. He's inferior in many ways to simply running SAs, and there are no perks or dedications for that."
Treharne says, "I don't know if #last can recall all of it but it can be grabbed manually yeah."
Treharne says, "Uhhhh."
Treharne says, "...I keep saying we should look at the formula for that. @_@"
Aaron says, "People have been saying that for months, and he's still broken."
Treharne says, "He has this really sharp scaling for some odd reason."
Treharne says, "Probably the same one SAs do for cred."
Treharne says, "So if you're not Lv60 the rewards fall off really hard with level."
Treharne says, "(Kinda the same with SAs but)"
Aaron says, "I've tried it with a character who is level 60, has all relevant perks, and has double cred energy."
Aaron says, "He is strictly inferior."
Aaron says, "Oh, and the character has the dedication, too. And I'm getting to the point where I'd like a refund because the dedication apparently does nothing."
Aaron says, "Aaaaanyway."
Aslan says, "Hello!"
Treharne says, "I'll see if anything can be done about that but no gaurantees? Also hello!"
Aaron says, "Flexible Survival crashes more frequently than any other game I've ever seen. What's being done to improve stability?"
Treharne says, "Thaaaaat's a question for Nuku and Hinoserm since the rest of us have no hand in server things."
Aslan says, "What are the needed steps to use a Supernatural Registration correctly?"
Treharne says, "@Aslan: Make a request with the details about the... what is that one for, dedications?"
Aslan says, "Its a little unclear if its for the whole dedication, or just a form assosiated with one"
Treharne says, "And work with staff to make it, at which point the registration item will be claimed from you."
Aaron says, "Open-to-public RP events appear to be largely non-existent, apart from things run by...well...me. Do you think the general absence of open-to-public RP events is damaging to new player retention, and if so, what's being done to remedy it?"
Treharne says, "@Aaron: Depends what the player comes here for. Also that's a judge thing, not a staff thing. Anyone can apply to be a judge just by asking; if anything, I'd have to guess that's more just the general tendency among RP groups to have a lot of people who want to play in something and not many who want to run something."
Miorna says, "Ok, I'm back."
Miorna says, "Now, I've done some more public scenes of late, mostly as a... here's how kind of thing though."
Aslan says, "Okay so file a request for the Supernatural Registration, and they will help me flesh it out. Still would be nice it if was clearer what I could request."
Aaron says, "Yeah, I tried education. Didn't seem to help...at all. I can only conclude that the issue isn't that people don't know how to run public events, they just don't choose to."
Treharne is taking notes of some questions to bring up later among wizchat.
Miorna says, "Indeed, and in such a case Aaron, there isn't much we can do. We've up'd the rewards, I've given plot ideas..."
Treharne also looks to Miorna on the 'how do you use Supernatural Registration properly' question.
Treharne says, "And... yeah. Not much you can do if people just don't want to run things."
Miorna says, "Short of running them myself, which I don't have the time to do every other day like I used to, not much to be done."
Miorna says, "Make a request. Please PLEASE do research about the thing you want to make a supernatural."
Aaron says, "Is there going to be some kind of documentation or file or somesuch thing created to more clearly explain what can and cannot cause death, and what might cause a character to become unplayable?"
Treharne says, "Could have sworn we had a file for what can kill you."
Miorna says, "I thought I made one for death."
Aaron says, "Did you? Where?"
Treharne says, "Help death"
Miorna says, "Yep, help death"
Aslan says, "[To: Miorna] Im more interested in what the limitations are ont he registration. Is it just a form, does it get powers, and is it tied to a dedication. If so do I crreate the dedication, or is that something the staff chooses."
Dio says, "A lot of the older judges are burnt out, don't like the way lore has shifted, hate the playerbase now, or a combination of the others. Newer judges I imagine have a problem with nerves. Can't do much about that."
Miorna says, "It includes a form, 2 powers, and up to 1 non-combat benefit."
Treharne says, "...I mean every form gets powers, I think. (Except base human.)"
Aslan says, "Ohh Thats good, writing that down."
Treharne says, "But yeah, sounds like it's basically 'make a ded, including a special form'."
Aaron says, "I can understand that to a degree, Dio."
Arris says, "Ooh. Lots of people. What's happening here?"
Miorna says, "Note, someone will have to write the form."
Aaron says, "Orgy."
Treharne says, "Also Dio has a point with shifting lore. I've said it's being pulled like five different ways and it's hard to agree on."
Dio says, "I cast cock."
Treharne says, "@Arris: Sort of an 'ask a staffer' event."
Aaron says, "Don't get me started on lore. >.>"
Miorna says, "Hahahaha, lore..."
Arris says, "Ahh. I suppose it's a bad idea to try rping here then?"
Miorna says, "Do you know how the lore itself really got going?"
Aaron says, "Yes."
Auros says, "looks like it haha"
Treharne says, "For the moment yeah, probably. ^^; sorry"
Aaron says, "Er, yes to Arris."
Dio says, "People asking questions?"
Aaron says, "I don't quite follow the question, Miorna."
Arris says, "Alrighty, to the basement cafeteria then."
Miorna says, "I mean, as far as the campaign to get it more known."
Miorna says, "Part of how I got my first staff job. Asking Nuku questions because Talakai didn't make sense."
Aslan says, "Thanks. Thats kind of what I wanted to know. @miorna So I research, come up with background and theme, and work with someone to create the form?"
Miorna says, "Pretty much Aslan."
Aslan says, "Thank you."
Aaron says, "Do you think lore will ever stabilize?"
Miorna says, "Quickest, and I mean quickest way to have your request denied is to want to make a supernatural thing that contradicts an existing supernatural idea OR is too mainstream."
Dio says, "I request Yahweh."
Miorna says, "[To: Aaron] Define Stabilize? The lore of the game is a lot more rock steady than ever before, but there will almost always be edge cases and such."
Aslan says, "[To: Miorna] Can you be more specific about mainstream?"
Miorna says, "Is a common western deity is the biggest one."
Aslan says, "What about something more say lovecraft?"
Miorna says, "I doubt Nuku's going to get pantie bundled by Shiva, even though Shiva is still worshipped."
Aslan says, "Just curious where the lines are."
Miorna says, "As long as it isn't copyrighted, should be fine."
Aslan says, "Great :D"
Catalyst says, "Fun"
Dracolon waves, "It has been an informative session but I think I am going to head out.
Miorna says, "Later! I have quite a few things I need to work on today, shortly."
Aaron says, "Yeah, I got all the answers I think I'm going to get."
Miorna poofs into stardust.
Neant says, "Anyone else have any other questions?"
Treharne takes notes on the questions that didn't get a good answer to bring up later in WC.
Neant says, "I think this was a success then, for the first of these."
