Crafting items is a reasonably complex system with many moving parts, so here's a guide to going about it!

The Basics - What you need to make items
Crafting uses several resources when making items. The most obvious is freecreds and salvage. You will also need builder nanites. Now, what's what and where do you lay your greedy little hands (or paws) on them?
- Freecred: Can be gained in multiple ways. RP, Social Actions, combat, quests, missions... you name it!
- Builder Nanites: This is a resource that is dropped from ferals you defeat in combat. You will (probably) need a collector or some way to increase your NaniteCollectRate to score vast amounts of it.
- Collectors: Two items spring to mind when increasing your NaniteCollectRate. The Improved Nanite Collector and Ultimate Nanite Collector. The Basic Nanite Collector does not increase this stat.
- Salvage: This is most likely the resource that will dictate how awesome an item you can make is. There are quite a few ways to gain salvage luckily!
- RPing near a salvage source is perhaps the easiest way to do so. They can be found all over the world. Try venturing outside of the Lobby once in awhile! Drag some friends along with you to a source and RP away!
- Mining an area, using either patrol points or builder nanites can be quite effective.
- Fighting difficult monsters have a higher chance of dropping alot of salvage
- Increase Profficiencies that increase your chance of finding salvage!
- Examples of what skills might do this is: Design, Installation, Survival, Computer and Research
- Schematics: You will need knowledge of how you actually make the thing you need to make! These are available in various shops, in the elite store, in the token store as well as a few from a quest or two.
- Skills: Lastly, you will also need the skills to make the items. These can be trained and improved on with perks as well.
Fight Monsters
Equip your nanite collector and fight some monsters! Every time you defeat a monster, a check is made to see if you successfully collect nanites or not. If that check succeeds, you will see the message "<Nanite collector> Your nanite collector chimes as it produces a dull white vial!".
Crafting
The complicated section.
- Go to a crafting station. These are currently available in the northern room on the second floor of Zephyr and RSX, at the Skunkworks, and in the Promethean village.
- Type 'craft'. It will list all the options for upgrading your items, and is reproduced below.
With the exception of the clean command to continue to remove distills, all these commands are out of date. Please refer to Craftmods for your upgrading needs.
Crafting Options Upgrade - One Builder Vial, Freecreds. (Distillation)=(item to melt down for points) - Make new distillations. Clean (number) - Clean an item of all distills, distills are lost. Extract (number) - Recover all distills on an item. Item is lost. To craft, type craft (option), like craft upgrade.
- Craftmods have replaced the old upgrade system. See Craftmods, or enter 'help craftmod' ingame, for more information.
Skills
Certain noncombat skills add a chance of getting more than one level's worth out of one vial. It's entirely possible to craft with no skills, but you will save vials, XP and freecreds otherwise.
- Computer increases the chance of getting crafting nanites during fights.
Making Items
Equipment items are created at level 0, while consumable items can be created at any level from 1 to the player's crafting skill level. To get your first recipes (Light Melee and Basic Spread) you need to talk to the Workshop Technician in the Zephyr complex (up 1 and north 1 from lobby). Typing "make" with no arguments gets you a list of the recipes you know. Once you are ready to make something type "make (recipe)=(modifier),(modifier),...". Note there is NO SPACE between modifiers, just a comma. Adding modifiers is optional, and their effects are multiplicative, not additive. Replacing 'make' with 'test' in the preceding command will tell you how much the item will cost and what skill level is required without producing the item.
The following prompts will appear:
- It will cost ### xp and ### freecred. Continue? ***This is just telling you what it's going to cost. Type Y to continue***
- What would you like to call your creation? ***This is the Item Name. It should be short and sweet, like Boomstick or Frying Pan***
- What do it look like? ***This is the long description of your item so feel free to get creative. EX: This frying pan looks like it hasn't been used for frying for a very long time. It has numerous dents and scrapes and the handle is wrapped in duct tape.***
After the final description is entered your item should be created and put in your inventory. Equip and enjoy!
Recipes and Recipe Modifiers
See Recipes and Recipe Modifiers. Note that not all recipes and recipe modifiers listed are actually available in the game yet.
