Scrublands

The Scrublands go on and on for miles, but if you are persistant and can fight your way past the ferals, you may find that they lead to a few interesting places. these scrublands are one of the few locations where compasses don't work and even a map can fail you.

Map

I'll say it again, there is no way to map the scrublands, compasses are useless! For the best results you probably want to use rtrace to get to the locations below. Sometimes you may even need to go backwards to go forwards...

Major Areas

  • Scrublands: Oh joy scrublands within the scrublands! Why would this be a major location? Well these are the Deep Scrublands which you only truly find by using +haz. The mutants found here oddly enough seem to be focused on the Crash Site for some reason...
  • Junkyard Mountain: This mountain was lost, forgotten about, and left unfinished long ago and was only recently brought back into the spotlight. Archie the roach watches over the entrance, but is too busy for anyone. Ferals once thought rare, and a few living inanimate objects as well, call this place home. Climbing further up the mountain you find Ivan the squirrel and a large airstrip filled with planes both fixed up and salvaged from. It is safe up here. At the top a feline in battle armor named Kari is at a training camp, set up in front of a large gate. Archie, Ivan, and Kari don't offer any quests, only questions. This mountain seems to be both under attack and in the process of being reclaimed. What lies behind that gate is a mystery, but it seems to be more dangerous than anything else on this mountain.
  • Twilight Caverns: Leaving the Crash Site you will find caverns crawling with mutants that blend in well with the myriad of crystals all over the cave. If you have a keen eye then you may find the Dusk Dragon dedication point hidden within this zone. The Twilight caverns are well named as you pass from light to dark. Deeper within the darkness you will find the Shadow Pits.
    • Shadow Pits: As you leave the Twilight Caverns behind the cave starts changing in scary ways eventually appearing to come alive with fleshy walls and secretions. It makes you wonder if you have just been swallowed alive! A quick check reveals you can easily go back, but that doesn't make it any easier to progress though the cave as monsters dwell here and the smells get worse further in. If the entrance of the cave was the mouth then the rear of the cave must be... Best not to dwell on that. Instead you should worry about the boss hiding in the gore pile at the end!
