There are a lot of things one doesn't see very often these days. Such as... old people, or virgin female huskies, or in this instance a pair of heavy duty chemical tankers outfitted with some immense looking pumps and hoses. Whoever paid for this service must have pockets deeper than a Margay Taur's pussy, and a heart so golden they'd... have keeled over from heart failure. Hey, not all jokes are meant to be funny. Magnus was standing just outside Fairhaven Chemical, idly talking with the rest of the cleanup crew, the fennec having adopted a new form by the looks of things. Catty-dragon-looking bastard, much taller than before, but in his line of work it had to happen sometime. Ever seen a midget bodyguard? Didn't think so. The specialists gathered in the area were of all shapes and sizes however, though it was hard to tell their forms however since everyone was wearing a variant on the nanite power armor but not really armor. Covering them from head to toe, those were enviro-suits, and by the look of how serious they were dressed, it would be a helluva job. Organizing this all was... someone else. Big fella, safe to guess he was a polar bear of some sort under that suit, holding a clipboard and standing on a raised platform, answering questions and organizing folks. Looks like he's the one to talk to here.

"I'm starting to get the idea that I should just stalk you if I want to find the interesting things," teases Nena as she rounds one of the tankers, looking Magnus over. "You're looking different today. It's a neat look, very cool." With a thumbs up, she takes in the rest of the scene, the helmet to her own sealed suit tucked under her arm. "I'll bother you later," she says with a wave, before making her way towards the polar bear. "What's up, chief? What needs doing?"

Fenris tromps up to the group, covered from head to toe in his own nanite armor, though his identity is hardly hidden, since he seems to have painted up his armor to resemble a cartoon tanuki, with little, round ears affixed to the top and the visor painted like a tanuki bandit mask, with a grinning, toothy smile underneath, presumably easy to see through from the inside. The suited up tanuki walks up to the group, assumes an Iron Man hero landing pose, then stands up dramatically. "Did someone call for a hero?" he asks in a ridiculous voice.

Luna aproaches the group, a lean rabbit woman. The power armor she wears looks to be of a completely different design then most of the hazzard suits people are wearing, but anyone capable of wearing one would know it's functionally the same. She looks at the huge tanks and asks "What kind of person can afford to maintain two trucks like these?" And with Fenris's entrance she just shakes her head in dissapointment.

Magnus spends 5000000 Freecred for RP reasons.

Vetu flies in silently and as the group gathers, he arrives with his armor and rifle and utters just enough of "ehm" to get the attention of the group. "I heard you were looking for a sharpshooter in here. Seeing as we have good cover, I guess I'll have pelnty of time to get a good aim on whatever we encounter." He turns to Magnus and says "So, what's the deal here, what is the intel?"

The feline nods towards Nena, then *swat* gives her a smack on the ass with that long, serpentine tail when she departs before he could so much as utter a greeting. Otters... damn it... his weakness. The foreman, big burly dude with quite the sour attitude, turns between Nena and Fenris, then rolls his eyes and puts the clipboard away. He listens Vetu and luna out, at least looking relieved that they were wearing protection. Magnus hooks a thumb and directs the water dragon over towards the Foreman. "Talk to the nerd." he says, and once Vetu joins the group, the bear clears his throat. "We were privately contracted by the cat dragon over there. The technology you see here is very expensive, as you might imagine, so I don't need to warn you to be careful with it." "Our goals today are to enter Fairhaven Chemical and relieve some of the built up pollution. The place is a ticking time bomb, and with the city being gradually rebuilt, I'd rather we pulled out some of the spilled out chemical waste. Nothing radioactive, thank the stars... but we got the kinda corrosive and poisonous sludge what can burn down to the bone if you're not careful. Glad you folks are wearing what's needed. SO!" The bear clasps his hands together. "First order of business, we need to bring these four hoses into the building and plant them into the largest pools of spillage so the trucks can siphon out the waste. THEN we'll deal with the hard stuff, as in literally hard toxic matter. For now, grab a hose and be careful when you go in there. Those suits will keep you safe, but you don't wanna go doing a belly flop in a puddle of flesh-destroying gunk. Last thing to be mindful of, the local feral populace. We did what we can to get em' to fuck off, but there might be some stragglers. Watch your backs, it's dark in there."

Nena casts a look over her shoulder in Magnus' direction at that, and gives a little wink before she listens to the bear's words. "Got it. Plant the hoses, watch out for the locals. And avoid taking a chemical bath, yuck. I wouldn't want to do that anyway." She flips her helmet over in her hands and pulls it over her head, sealing it. "Let's get too it then." The otter wasn't too worried about any lingering ferals. Nothing a strong arm couldn't solve. For now, though, she grabs one of the hoses and starts for the building proper.

Fenris nods, "On it!" he proclaims, the painted grin of his helmet doing a good stand in of what his actual face is doing. The burly tanuki claims a hose, activates a headlamp above his visor, and tromps off into the darkness, humming a little song to himself. It echoes oddly in his helmet.

Luna does some stretches as she starts working forward, asking a few more questions. "What kind of back pressure should we expect from the hoses, what is our expected work time, and what is the relative hostility in the area?" as her questions are answered, she then adds to the rest of the group: "I've got a background in chemistry so if any of you need to know what is melting you alive, I'll tell you how to stop it from eating anything more than your arm. Now, lets get this show on the road." She starts hauling in a hose easilly, handing one over to Nena and then picking one up for herself.

Vetu listens to the briefing and ponders at the heftly pipes. He manages to lift one but it dragos him down some. He puts down his binoculars to help him see in the dark. He winghugs the pipe and readies his rifle onward, staying in the back. He says to the group "I'm best at running and xeno's so if you see big threat, I'll distract them quick before you get ready to fill them with lead, got it?"

"No back pressure. Just yeet the fuckers into the deepest pool of sludge you can find and let them drain, these puppies are made to withstand a nuclear explosion. Top of the line stuff, but heavy." The bear states proudly as he nods his head towards one of the four heavy duty hoses strewn about the ground, each pair attached to one of the trucks. Fenris would find carrying the hose a little troublesome, though this only meant he had to take his steps a little slower than usual. Luna and Nena have no such troubles, and Vetu is merely a little slow in his steps with the hose on their back. Entering through the large double doors, the group would have been glad to have nose protection here, this place was every kind of smelly, and then some. Noxious fumes were wafting heavily all over the area, the nanite protection suit working wonders to ensure none of that toxic vapor was contaminating their lungs. What is immediately apparent to everyone is the presence of various vats, worn down by time and nanites, leaking or already empty, the soft *hisss*ing of the various liquids interacting rather unsettling to witness. The largest pools are also very easy to spot for everyone, one on the northmost part of the hanger-like chamber, one dead-center where the broken vats had pooled together, one to the Eastmost where the sludge had chewed through the wall and was mixing in with something nasty on the other side, and one directly to their right, which had a very eery and slightly glowing crimson hue to it...

"Such a mess," Nena says, looking the room over as she lugs her hose around. She looks up for a moment, frowning, before looking back down. "Mind the topside, I think we'll have company." But for now, she points to the first pool she saw: The one at the far north. "I'll take that one," she says, before dragging her hose that way, adjusting her stance and widening her gait a little. She was ready to receive a pounce from above, should they be so bold.

"This looks like a supervillain origin story waiting to happen," Fenris says amiably, the comms in his helmet broadcasting locally, "What kind of chemical plat ACTUALLY has glowing vats of bubbling ooze?" The smile on his helmet does not waver, for the obvious reason that it is painted on, but the smile in his voice seems just as firm. "Yeah," he responds to Nena, "I hear them too. Ready for fun and games." He does not try to look up, but turns off toward the glowing red pool to the right, deciding it was the most likely to give him weird super powers.

Luna takes a look over the different spills in need of cleanup, and sighs. "Working sanitation is never a fun job." she mutters to herself. She comms to the group: "Tanuki, I suggest... ugh... oup... sorry. just be careful with any fragments that may be floating in that. Otter, I'm sorry I never got your name, try to find some industrial thinner that doesn't react with petrochemcials too badly. It will help your hose gather up the spill. Dragon? If you have some good fortitude and heat resistance I suggest you go for the vat to the east, and try your best to stay as clear from it as possible. If not, go for the center and I'll take care of it. Center vat is just as corrosive but at least you don't have to deal with heat." She then moves to the spill Vetu left for her.

Vetu looks at the ooze with apprehension as his nose is filled with nasty smells. He reached the group at slower pace so had less time to look around. He scouts the area ahead and above for any signs of enemies and as he zooms in the glob on the ceiling he beins to recognize an oddly familiar xeno pattern. He says "this looks familiar guys, these patterns oddly refer to long legged creatures I used to study, they were erradicated before the 2000, so the books said in the library. Keep together and move, I will scout the top.

The cleaning procedures advance, it was a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it, right? As Vetu advances to scout up, he'd be able to tell right away that something was not right here... something was very off in fact, and his presence there near the top of the building was probably what'd prevented an ambush just now. However, this... thing... or many things... they were upon him. Now's the time to get away from the high ground. It's never as easy as it looks, is it?

Nena looks back over her shoulder towards Luna. "I'm Nena. Find something that doesn't react with what?" She stares at the puddle. The hell was a petrochemical? She'd find something to throw in it, probably. Turning away, she casts her eyes around the room looking for a whats-it to put in the other whats-it. She takes a step and goes wide-eyed when she starts to slide, her legs almost splitting from under her. Some quick thinking saves her, though, as she drops the hose and spreads her arms, helping to counterbalance with her tail and limbs. "Careful. The floor in here is slippery," she warns, as she carefully reaches for the hose again.

Fenris looks at the contents of the glowing vat and shakes his head. "No superpowers for whoever that guy was," he murmurs, seeing the bloody corpse bits floating around. He carefully hauls a few good lengths of hose toward himself, forming a heavy coil at the edge of the vat. Then he gives it a good heave to drop the length in, hoping that the hose is as sturdy and resistant as the eggheads outside seem to think it is. Task done, he turns his attention to the ceiling. "Now, who is up there?" he asks quietly, fingering the sword incongruously strapped to the leg of his power suit.

Luna lost track of where Vetu went, and assumes that they are dealing with whatever feral problem is above. When she hears nena's confusion she replies "latex, sorry. It will be thick and slippery so you need a thinner to work it down. I don't know where in the factory to find that though." Luna then aproaches the center chemical vat and throws the hose end deep into the spill, staying clear of if herself.

Vetu heads to the east, making baby steps as the hose slows him down, the voices of his colleagues slowly losing their strength as he reaches the end of the large tunnel. Thanks to his binoculars he sees the large puddle in front of him and lowers the heavy hose in with a gulp. As he turns back though, a cold runs through his spine as he saw something from the corner of his binoculars. He spreads his wings and gives them a hard push back towards the group but fails miserably and his left leg gets dipped in nasty chemicals and they begin their work. He shouts to the group to get ready as he tries to return to them as he possible can.

Several ravenous beasties swoop down from the ceiling in a frenzied flurry of attacks, one for each of the four bodies they were seeing down on the ground. These... things, they looked paler than snow and had tiny, beady eyes, scarred flesh and a sickly green face. Whatever had twisted and perverted these atrocities had done so thoroughly, as they seemed adept at living in this toxic mess... they were fast. Faster than fast in fact, moving and reacting at blink-level rapidity. No sooner than they'd dived down, they were making their way back up, likely looking for a second chance to deal more harm. That is... until Luna up and manages to catch one...

Nena was... Mostly ready for an attack from above, but she wasn't ready for how fast they'd be. Though she catches one, it's not at a good angle, and she quickly releases it, cursing under her breath. "Alright, so that's what we're going to be dealing with. Okay. I can work with that." From the back of her hip, she draws a sickle and chain, narrowing her eyes. The reach might give her some advantage, she figures, and sets the chain into a spin, preparing for the next approach. The chemical spill could wait.

Fenris does not really see whatever dropped from the ceiling to attack him. He hears the screeching hiss, and feels something scrape the elaborate paint from his power suit, but does not make it out in the darkness. His headlamp bobs wildly as he takes a skip back, skirting dangerously close to the edge of the glowing red vat and drawing his sword. He whips the leaf shaped blade in a complicated pattern, to hold off his attacker. Too bad he didn't bring his spear along today.

Luna knew those ferals were out there, which was enough to give her the edge she needed. When an albino bat swooped down to claw at her, she not only avoided it's many blows with deft evasion, but managed to grab hold of one of it's wings and spin it down in a hold on the ground. "I don't take kindly to be ambushed." She says, putting the bat in an arm bar. But when it screeched with distress, the stirring of many more bats in the factory made her uneasy. "I know what's coming. Call off your friends and I'll let you go. I'm not here to start a fight, but I'll end one."

Vetu readies his sonic gun for the first wave of attackers to cut tehm by surprise and give the group time to signal retreat. He looks quickly around the area as his binoculars show them approaching from all side but mostly from the ceiling, there are many of them but if he can manage to time this right, he might be able to buy the team some time to get away. His left leg is hurt though and as the front paw gets the most pain, it might slow him down substantially. Good that he's quadruped and can run almost at full speed with three legs. He looks at the team who's looking pumped, mostly Luna and Fenris, fingers on triggers. He turns his sonic boom gun at the ceiling and signals the team with his paw "in 5, 4.."

Oh gods, they were coming, or rather they were still waking up... those that did already skittering and shrieking down from the ceiling. First there was one, then two, three, four... six, eight, ten... they were all lunging from the ceiling, clawing and shrieking, swarming en-masse, more coming as they wake up from their slumber... Vetu aims his weapon upwards and *BWOMF* releases what could be scarcely described as large shockwave upwards, the impact causing another twelve to fall down, three landing in the still draining pools, crying for help as their flesh is chemically burned off of their bodies, the pool most caustic to the east rapidly turning crimson. More were coming... but Vetu's attack had managed to stagger a lot of them all at once. Still, the ones down on the ground were making a frenzied assault. Luna was right at home, dodging swipe after swipe, Nena and Fenris less fortunate as they take scrapes and cuts one after the other, their armor holding up for now... and Vetu takes the worst of it, several cuts and slashes landing over his scales, stinging sharp pain coursing out of those wounds. "WHAT'S GOING ON IN THERE?!" a voice rings out through their comm lines. "GET OUT! NOW NOW NOW!" It was the foreman, and there at the entrance were several of the cleaners, Magnus alongside them, opening fire and trying to provide covering from the ever-growing mass of twisted bat mutants.

"Leave? Now? When it's just getting exciting? Bah..." Nena will, at least, try to shove the hose into the latex pool while weathering the assault before leaving. And, if she can, she'll take a long distance swing at one of them for good measure as she moves. Maybe the one on Vetu's tail, maybe one in the air. It didn't matter much, she just wanted to make sure she gave as good as she got.

Fenris staggers about a little as the freaky little bat monsters scrape at his armor. He flips his sword around in another complex pattern, trying to give himself a little breathing room. He has done what he came here to do, and the order to evacuate is just fine with him. He sheathes his sword and dives forward, curling into a ball, armor and all and rolling at speed for the exit!

With the colony of bats coming down on them, Luna simply says "Then we do this the hard way." before poping the wing of the bat she has pinned and dislocating it. With the first bat now out of comission, she makes a dash for Vetu to help him, moving like a parkour expert and dodging the many bats on her way over. It was difficult to get their claws off of him, but Luna manages to help Vetu's own efforts that only one bat remained. She pulls out a cylindrical grenade from her belt and pulls the pin, spraying the remaining feral with teargas before waving it around to cover their retreat.

Vetu grunts as his tail gets it but he lifts the critter up towards him and gives him a good beating, freeing his tail. He turns to face the empty corner of the group as his weapon now blinks to "ready". He looks at his group and shoots towards the main swarm, aiming for the kill. He closes his eyes and hopes for the best as he pull the trigger and weapon humms vigorously before releasing a blast

It was at this point that several people storm into the building and grasp at people's arms, pulling on them fiercely to yank them out of the structure, even Vetu gets several pairs of hands pulling at his arms after the weapon fires, and thank goodness it does, the second concussive blasts sends several more of the bats reeling, where as the smoke sadly does little more than irritate the eyes of those that needed them to see. The bats that've been living in near pitch black so far are unbothered... The agents are all dragged out of the building, some forcibly, others lead by hand, the situation was getting way out of hand at that point. It was then that an ear-splitting screach is heard, forcing Magnus and everyone else in the cleaning crew to cover their ears, some taking it better than others. Vetu's head would hurt for a long time from that painful sound, Nena faring much better, and Fenris would be dazed with his ears left ringing... Luna meanwhile? Oh dear... she flops onto the floor, blurry-visioned and paralyzed. Those long rabbit ears had just stabbed her in the back...

Nena goes out swinging! Quite literally. She doesn't need much help extracting, fortunately, but that doesn't mean she was staying behind. She was just swinging that chain over head to help cover her retreat. She ceases and flinches, though, at the screech. "Ack, my ears are going to be ringing from that," she mutters, finding a place to take a seat, even on a curb, and remove her helmet. "That was exciting, though. Been a while since I've had a fight proper."

Fenris rolls out of the building, and rolls down the stairs, and rolls a bit off course, bumping gently into one of the big trucks before unfolding and lying dazed on the ground. "Did someone get the number of that fireworks truck?" he asks woozily.

The ear-splitting screech rings out just as Luna got Vetu to the extraction point, and a good thing too becuse her sensitive rabbit ears couldn't stand the sound. Luna promptly collapsed into the arms of those helping people out of the building, the whole world spinning faster then she could possibly keep up with and unable to hear anything but a constant loud ringing.

Vetu exclames happily as his trustee gun hat not failed him again and hit the heart of the bat legion. His earholes then grow painful and his head begins to ring so much that his vision is tripled. Be it not for Luna's paws pulling him back, he would have stayed on the same place, wondering what is going on. He looks around but sees everyone in deep haze as his ears interpret each voice as if standing in a cathedral. Plus he is hallucinating horses. "Oh this is great. Last thing I needed for my injuries. though I hope my leg won't fester". He tries to look for a medic to share his observations with but he's unable to stand straight and collapses on the ground missing paralyzed luna by an inch.

As the group were evacuated out of the building, those conscious would spot the swarm of bats making their exit out of the building. Perhaps they felt threatened, perhaps they were worried these gross little fluffy things were gonna come back and disturb their sleep again, perhaps they were just sick of the city, regardless they all form a massive cloud-swarm of beating wings, fading into the distance towards the east. God help whatever dark and dingy cave they decide to set up in... but at least they were gone now. Magnus leans over Luna and gives her a few light slaps to the face, then checks her eyes to make sure she was still with them. "Oh, good." She was just dazed... so far as he could tell. Turning towards Vetu, Fenris and Nena, the feline sighs and asks. "What the hell were those things?"

"No idea. Bats maybe?" Nena ponders, looking to the sky and the way they're headed. "They weren't very tough, just fast. If I didn't have to worry about this safety gear, I'd have loved to stay and fight it out, but I guess that's not going to happen. Ah well." She lifts her arms over her head and stretches out with a heavy sigh. "At least we managed to get something done."

Fenris raises a finger. "Bats," he says, "Which means that I am now Batman. Origin story!" He lets his arm flop back to the ground and he rolls to his feet, carefully removing his helmet and sticking a finger in his ringing ear.

Luna is completely out of it. She could feel someone slapping her face lightly, which she will definitely punch whoever it is. That is, if she can figure out who it is once her surroundings stop looking like swirling mush. This is going to take a lot more than just a hangover cure to fix...

Vetu "not bats", he says away from the crowd, unsure where anthing really is and continues to share his observations. "they mostly resemble bats but their bodily structure and the screech point to an old creature stupid humand experimented on. They called his "great shrieker" and their last report said that their 5 speciments died in the aftermath of the P-day. It would seem we have found their new lair. Good thing is they hate the sun and fire. We should use this weakness against them next time".

"To quote one of my favorite movie protagonists, if it bleeds, we can kill it." Magnus grumbles at the explanation of the bat infestation they had. Actual bats or no, they looked and sounded the part. That's all the feline cared about. "We got most of the sludge out by now, that black shit's gonna take a while longer, but... I don't think you folks are in any shape to help out with the rest, so your contract is done. Report to RSX at your leisure to get your payment, ask for Fendler. Robert. J. Fendler. He's the one handling the payouts." With that, the operation ends for the four, the rest was up to the cleaning crew again...
