Background
The overall goal of the mission was simple. Fairhaven's scouting teams had reached the absolute edge of how far from Fairhaven they could explore. Scouts were officially reaching outside of the bubble and the time they could spend out there without refuge was not sustainable. While RSX and Zephyr both offered their services, they could not strike a deal that satisfied City Hall. The resulting forward operating base would ultimately not belong to the city in both cases which would further exasperate the city's already over reliance on the two companies.
Fed up, City Hall contacted Wolfwood, a local mercenary and businesswoman who was known to make frequent trips out of the city. Most importantly, she had no affiliation to the two companies. While her rate was somewhat higher than the two companies, she would claim no ownership over the structure and leave all ownership in the city's hands.
Deal in hand, time was spent scouting out a location for the structure to be built and, to the far south east, she found an ideal location. Many years prior, one of California's power system's administrative buildings, long since abandoned after P-Day, was claimed by two aspiring DJ's. According to rumors, they had a miniserver installed with regulation nanomagic and had refactored the nearby power relay station to accept mako batteries. Unfortunately for them, that made them a target and a gang of hyena bikers attacked the site. After a short but brutal fight, the building partially collapsed, killing the DJ's and burying the server.
The server appeared to deactivate and the hyenas lacked the equipment to dig it out without the assistance of nanites. So they left. Unknown to them, the server was actually just damaged and rebooting. Once it reactivated, it was operating at a severely reduced capacity. Due to the damage creating a glitch, all of the nanites it was capable of controlling moved to construct golems from the nearby rubble and began the operation of gathering salvage to conduct repairs. Without anything to actually conduct the repairs, however, the golems never stopped their slow salvaging operation and defense of the site. Massive piles of junk, salvage, and even body parts were gathered there. It became a nightmare for anyone foolish enough to approach.
If it could be secured, however, they would have access to both a local site to plug in a mako battery and a miniserver that simply needed repairs. That would bring the total cost of the entire operation way down and make just about everyone happy. The problem?
The golems. They needed to be disassembled so the construction team could move in and claim the site. Wolfwood needed a team.
The Event
Alpha team was tasked with reclaiming the ruins of the site's ruined admin building. Deciding caution was advisable, the team took on ambush positions and drew the hidden golems out with an airburst explosive. While the golems were formidable, the team ended up shredding them. They didn't even need to break out regulation nanomagic. With the foot of the ruins accessible, Wolfwood deployed a jammer to keep the miniserver from producing any more golems than it already had.
Beta team was focused on the power relay. While there was only a singular golem, it was an absolute unit and directly tied into the station's power output. While it was initially touch and go, the team deployed a clever use of both nanomagic and specialized devices to weaken the golem enough to bring it toppling down. They soon disabled the power which would be an absolute assurance no more golems would come out even after the jammer's removal.
Charlie team was initially more straight forward. Their only goal was to defend the construction crew and their equipment while the other teams reclaimed the area. However, the hyenas still considered that area their territory and were quick to try and collect dues. Despite things turning into a hostage situation, the equipment overall only took minor damage and none of the civilian crew were seriously injured. While the gang would certainly be a future problem, they were at least both humiliated and dealt with.
